It doesn't matter if we've got the best approach to racism in the world, if there's areas to improve upon, pointing out that other countries are worse won't fix that problems, it just fuels our constant national arrogance and delusion. To go back to the covid example you brought up earlier, it doesn't matter that we're vaccinating more people than most countries, it doesn't change the fact that the government's inaction led us to some of the highest death numbers in the world at points during this pandemic, being on top of a table doesn't mean we can't do better. I'm so bored of nationalism, Covid and racism is not the ****ing premier league. Stop treating it as such. |

You asked “are those methods going to work” and I replied that “pointing out the problem is part of the solution” - that was my answer. |

Yes, I asked were these methods going to work: Do ‘the ‘UK is institutionally racist! Ott Warrior types think for example that throwing the accusation ‘racist’ around simply because some people dislike someone or people losing their jobs because they don’t believe what a mixed race person says is going to improve things or make them worse? You answered: “pointing out the problem is part of the solution” .......... Could you expand on how doing these things are part of the solution? because I just don't get your reasoning here or maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean. Support for the praiseworthy conclusions of the Sewell Report is needed
The baseless abuse from the Left was predictable - but the silence from the Government on its own race review is disappointing More than a week has passed since the committee on race in Britain commissioned by Boris Johnson reported its findings and the silence from the Government is deafening. Encouragingly, the report found the UK’s record to be praiseworthy while acknowledging that much still needed to be done to improve the life chances of ethnic minorities and of some white working class people as well. The reaction from those who make their living from fomenting divisions in society was predictable. They have spent the past week seeking to denigrate the report’s findings and the committee members, notably its chairman Dr Tony Sewell. Bizarrely, he has been likened to a member of the Ku Klux Klan or a Nazi. When opponents stoop to outlandish slurs you know they have no real case to make. Why are they so desperate to discredit this report rather than see it as an opportunity to build on the progress that has already been made? Dr Sewell, interviewed by Liam Halligan in the Telegraph, says he has a fairly thick skin and is resistant to such abuse. Moreover, as he stresses, the report does not deny that racism exists but rather suggests the disparities people face, whether in education or employment or health care, have myriad causes, not just one. Most objectively minded people would regard this as a perfectly reasonable approach that does not attempt to brush aside the issue but offers some practical solutions based on the data. The Government has yet to respond formally to this report and Dr Sewell says that privately he is encouraged by “positive soundings”. But he deserves those to be heard publicly, too. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/...report-needed/ |

Everyone on the Left is outraged by this report, while upholding there was never any anti-Semitism in the Labour Party. Because that's not real racism, is it.

No one said antisemitism doesn't/didn't exist in the labour party. antisemitism within labour is lower than society as a whole. I raised this same point albeit for different reasons; right wingers can't tell us there's no racism when they've been screaming about labour since Corbyn gave them a scare.

Racists always get ahead of themselves to jump on anything that might initially appear favourable to them, until the eventual facts always drip out.

Any level headed person knew this report was a bit too good to be true, but people got to hear what they wanted to hear.

Imagine having the author and experts saying that Downing Street interfered with the report and still believing the report they put out.
It's sad how so many people in the UK seem to fear reality so much that they choose to abandon it and seek refuge in their preferred fiction. It's sad how people choose a comforting lie over the truth. I only hope one day, they can find the courage to rejoin the rest of us in reality. Last edited by Tom4784; 11-04-2021 at 06:06 PM. |

They sent around 3,200 fake job applications for both manual and non-manual jobs - including chefs, shop assistants, accountants and software engineers - in response to adverts on a popular recruitment site between November 2016 and December 2017. All of the fictitious candidates were British citizens, or had moved to the UK by the age of six, and had identical CVs, covering letters and years of experience. While 24% of white British applicants received a call back from UK employers, only 15% of ethnic minority applicants did. Compared to White British applicants, people of: Pakistani heritage had to make 70% more applications Nigerian and South Asian heritage 80% more applications Middle Eastern and north African heritage 90% more applications

Why not put his full name so people can actually see who he is and find out he came into this report with a conclusion he's been peddling for years?

Dr Tony Sewell: ‘When people are this desperate to silence you, you must be saying
something true’ The study was compiled by 10 independent commissioners – nine of whom are black or Asian. Sewell himself is the London-born son of Jamaican parents, part of the Windrush generation who came to Britain in the 1950s. Yet this exhaustive 258-page data-driven report finds that, when it comes to the life chances of the 13 per cent of the UK population from ethnic minorities, “impediments and disparities do exist, but are varied and ironically very few of them are directly to do with racism”. The commissioners “no longer see a Britain where the system is deliberately rigged against ethnic minorities,” the report concludes. “Britain should be seen as a model for other white-majority countries”. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/202...ing-something/ top DT comment: What a refreshing voice of reason. A big part of the problem is this ingrained idea of perpetually playing the victim, aided and abetted by the hard left desperate for a good client base of dependency. Multiculturalism has totally failed ethnic minorities and it’s more than time it was discarded. |
