I hadn't seen that thread but I still think taking the time to post and say its fake news or whatever is worse than either not seeing a thread or not commenting on it

Not that is should be a competition really

i removed that one yes

this is horrible yes, but we'll see what we will get to know from the investigation

maybe this was something personal who knows, i mean setting someone alight makes me think into that direction either, because normal homophobic attacks usually is more physical beating, kicking

cases like this have happened here in my nation too (not to gay people specifically but whenever there was a personal vendetta or conflict)

Its a debate forum so yes they will have different views and so people can also challenge those views and say they don't agree with it

we are all entitled to our own views yes

if indeed a homophobic attack then yes it is disgusting

but if another motive, then still disgusting since it is an attack against a key worker

i personally don't really see Latvia as a homophobic nation but tbh you have homophobes everywhere in the world i think, just in some countries more than in others

I think its important on a debate forum to have standards. As this currently is an alleged incident (however horrific) the title should be:

Gay paramedic burnt alive in "homophobic attack".

Just as it is in EVERY media report. It is done this way so as not to mislead. It is a journalistic rule and its one that we should adhere to.

imo

I don't understand what you mean? So you are saying if someone says something I don't agree with, I cannot say I don't agree with it? Everything is people's opinion and how they deal with things is different but that's what causes the debate aspect surely?

I think people have jumped the gun on this thread and making something out of nothing regarding attitude. Newspaper articles have stipulated that 'suicide' was being investigated thats all...but quite probably this wasnt the case. People mentioning this are merely quoting newspaper reports and by no means downplaying or disrespecting what happened to this poor man.

You've tried this argument before, and it never works out for you. It's a wonder why you keep going back to it.

You don't have to comment on other threads to make your opinion in this thread valid, not seeing or responding to certain threads doesn't make the fact that a cavalier attitude (and in some cases, denial of the nature of this attack) any less tasteless. It's not a competition, stop trying to make it so by comparing the two incidents and keeping note of who posts in different threads like it somehow diminishes what they have to say, because it doesn't. It's just an incredibly lazy way of trying to bat aside views you don't like.

You are not disagreeing though you are more or less judging levels of empathy, we read about horrifying events every day, some create more of a reaction than others it doesn’t mean that he didn’t die a horrendous death either by his own hand or something more sinister, pointing out people should have more empathy isn’t going to make it happen

That's exactly what you did though by bringing up another thread that had not been commented on and even stating how many views it had had.

I find people saying its fake news is ****ty.....but I won't comment again, its not worth it

I brought up another thread as an example that horrific events can be completely ignored, it’s not confined to this case

I’m a bit confused by the reports on it, just read that a disgruntled neighbour set him alight, but in the same article that he had been brought to suicide so it’s unclear

This forum is so messed up.

People getting attacked for posting sympathy for a man who was set alight and killed. Look at yourselves.

It did not happen. It's a shut down

As isxa lot of posts that don't accept that this is at the moment allegation

The narrative is it's a fact and I'm sure that is correct but it's an allegation

And to pretend otherwise is one very, very slippery slope

Still the thread title is wrong

Nothing has been done about it

Make of that what you will...

I know discrimination happens here but I’d like to think the police would do a full investigation still. Makes me feel so lucky to live here. RIP
