Another sad thing is because they DO travel around alot , the kids usually miss out on an education and usually struggle to read and write.
I'm not sure if many of them have ever been to school often. |

…we’ve always had quite a few traveller children with pretty good attendance, tbh…but I’m sure like most things and communities, that probably varies from school to school, GoldHeart…

I'm not calling you an arsehole, but the point I'm trying to make is that if every traveller you've met has been unpleasant, then maybe your at fault in someway. If you think that all Travelers are unpleasant, people can pick up on it, and they'll react to it. |

The other used to cold call the elderly, tell them he'd look at their roof free of charge, the come down with a dead Squirrel and tell them they needed thousands of pounds worth of work doing, charge them, but not actually do it. He actually went to prison for 18 months for that. The ones who unmercifully whip the horse on public roads as previously mentioned. Or the guy who wouldn't feed his Greyhounds to make them more bloodthirsty when taking them Coursing? Again, not saying there aren't any good Travellers out there, of course there are, im just saying i've never met one.

..travelling communities../…travellers are also not portrayed well in the media and never have been so I think before we know any individually…we’re often slanted to look for ‘grim’ as well…look for something and we’ll find it for sure…not that there isn’t grim as you say, Swan…but that’s because of personalities rather than lifestyle I feel…

I remember the Travelling community gave that evil scumbag Mick Philpott thousands of pounds after his children died in that fire (before they knew the truth of course). So im not saying there aren't good out there at all. But i do think education is key, and some Travelling communities are notorious for their mistreatment of animals, and intimidating of people because they don't know any better. Whereas some are just bad people, but the same could be said for every walk of life i agree.

…I think that we’re all very narrow in our own personal experiences of travellers and again depending on whether those we know in our local traveller communities mix with the outer community also …and that’s what the media exploit isn’t it when they ‘demonise’…that we do often have a narrow window of personal relationships …so it makes stereotyping and demonising easier for them… |

Channel 4's Dispatches looked at figures from the 12 months from December
2018. Data from around 200 sites in England revealed crime rates there are also a third higher than the average in a quarter of cases. The investigation found police in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and other areas with larger traveller populations claimed they are unable to tackle the issue head on. One officer told the programme: "When we see that there is a specific part of the community in quite large numbers committing crimes and we're almost not allowed to mention it - that can be frustrating. "Because they’re such a closed community and there’s usually a fair few in numbers...if we go in there it is going to be carnage." Andrew Selous, MP for South West Bedfordshire, revealed some residents have told him they moved away from these areas as they felt unsafe, adding "that is completely unacceptable". https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/114083...tes-channel-4/ |
