Default UK plastic waste is being exported to Turkey and then illegally dumped and burned

[UK plastic waste is being exported to Turkey
and then illegally dumped and burned,
according to a report.
Greenpeace said about 40% - or 210,000 tonnes - of
the UK's plastic waste exports
were sent to Turkey last year.

But rather than being recycled,
investigators saw some of it dumped by roads,
in fields and in waterways.

The UK is a "global leader in tackling
plastic pollution", the government
said - after Greenpeace called for
it to "take control" of the problem.
Greenpeace's report warned Turkey was
becoming Europe's "largest plastic waste dump".
The charity said it had investigated 10 sites
across southern Turkey and found plastic bags
and packaging from UK supermarkets
and retailers at all of them.
Packaging for a coronavirus antigen test
was also found,
indicating the waste
was less than a year old, the report said.

Nihan Temiz Atas, biodiversity projects lead
from Greenpeace Mediterranean, based in Turkey,
said: "Around 241 truckloads of plastic waste c
ome to Turkey every day from across Europe
and it overwhelms us.]

This is so typical.
We need to Burn all our own plastics,
Using a Special Filter Slim High Chimney
It is the only way.

….how can the U.K. be a global leader in tackling plastic pollution while generating more plastic waste than any other country apart from the US…?…

…the Earth is being suffocated like a cling film wrap around it…poor Turkey, one of the countries that receives the most dumped plastic …

Because we put out our little blue bins and they take it away and we pretend it's been recycled and that's what the official stats show. It's not OUR fault if it doesn't actually get recycled once it's left Britain . Not our responsibility any more . It's THEIR waste now, not ours.

Usually when plastic ends up somewhere like this it's because the country it comes for is paying them to "process" it so they are selling a service. Still, poor Turkish people as they don't really get a say... but the government/some big businesses/both will be getting £££ to take the plastic.

…yeah, it was Malaysia last year so it’s obviously being sold to different poorer countries but it’s morally wrong as you say…the people don’t get the say…it’ll be interesting to know what the payments are spent on, if the money is ‘recycled’ back into recycling….

…we can’t really say ‘criminals in Turkey’ when we’re the ones giving payment for our plastic to be ‘someone else’s problem’…this is a world problem, not pushing it from country to country…and then screaming criminal when we’re part of that cycle…

…I mean, the toxic fumes from the burning plastic that the poor Turkish people have no choice to have in their living environment…it’s just so morally wrong as well as destroying…

majority of turkish public, also officials within their national tv channels dislike Erdogan

basically enough proof there is corruption within the election system every election year

if there was fair voting, Erdogan would've no longer been in power, for quite some years now
