This has probably got more to do with keeping the voting age at 18 because that was under pressure to reduce to 16 because you could get married at 16 but not vote.

It pays to read between the lines

To be fair... getting married under 18 is quite the choice. I doubt it happens very often these days under normal circumstances, in fact I can think of very few who would be considering marriage under 21. And frankly would say that's obviously sensible.

…this has been rumbling for ages and campaigned for by some children’s charities as well…Barnado’s is one that’s spoken out about it for a long time…that child marriages contribute to domestic violence…it’s a good and positive move, I think…

Yes I think
Labour will agree to this Change
as so many arranged marriages are
forced in Asian families.

Good choice. The age of consent should also be 18.

If people were to be allowed to vote at 16, the justice system would have to accept they're adults and try them as adults. If you want the rights you have to accept the responsibilities.

[Minimum legal age for marriage could be raised
to 18 in England and Wales as ex-chancellor Sajid Javid
says forcing 16-year-olds to wed is 'child abuse
Sajid Javid put forward legislation for minimum age
to be married be raised to 18
Currently young adults aged 16 can get married with
the consent of their parents
Mr Javid said he had looked into changing the law
when he was Home Secretary]

[It's clear that we must legislate to close
this loophole so that vulnerable children
cannot be pushed into such serious and
life-changing commitments before they are ready.'
Mr Javid, who is of Pakistani heritage,
said he had looked into changing the law
when he was home secretary in
Theresa May's government having
seen examples of the practice in
his own community.]
