Also makes me think Strange knows more about the "bigger picture" of what's going on than he's letting on in that Spider-man trailer. Seems like him and Wong have been recently discussing "Multiverse Magic Stuff" already when Peter comes knocking. Althernatively though... Strange being a "newbie" Sorceror Supreme might be why he isn't as aware of the dangers as The Ancient One was, and the reason he's not being as cautious as he should be. POW! BLAM!
|
Yeah it was really good!
It was literally Member-Berries The Movie, but what isn't these days : joker: it's the first time the nostalgia was aimed at my age and not 10+ years older so I didn't mind too much |

Tbh for this one you'll get most out of it if you saw the old Spider-man movies with Tobey Maguire / Andrew Garfield. Other MCU stuff isn’t that important and you can get it from context.
It’s also fine without having seen the ye olde spider-man films, you just won’t get some of the references, the story is still explained “for n00bs” and makes sense on its own (unlike, say, Avengers Endgame) |

I just watched this. (I would have gone to the cinema but Omicron put me off doing that.)
I didn't think it was a great film by any means, but I liked it for the interactions involving the three Spideys. Like 'I'm Peter 3!'. |

That's kind of a fatal flaw built into the whole MCU these days though... to get the most out of the movies and shows, you have to be keeping up with the movies and shows. E.g. I hadn't seen Black Widow, stopped half way through Hawkeye when Yelena turned up because I didn't know who she was but correctly guessed she would have been introduced in Black Widow, so I watched that before continuing Hawkeye. That whole Hawkeye subplot is meaningless to anyone who hasn't seen that movie . But yeah that's amplified 10x with No Way Home because not only do you have to have seen them, to get the emotional hit you have to have seen them back when they released. |

On the plus side... My daughter, an MCU sceptic, only liked the Spider-man franchise but now wants to come and see Doc Strange 2 when it releases, so has been successfully partially indoctrinated.

I was watching Red Letter Media's review of Doctor Strange 2, and one of them said in it that No Way Home was like the longest Superbowl commercial ever made - which is exactly right.
eg. when Bill Murray reprises his role from Groundhog Day for an advert, but you are really just watching Bill Murray rather than the character. Matthew Broderick as Ferris was another example. |

i felt that spiderman had too much action that attempted to compensate for a bland storyline

As much as I enjoy it for the nostalgia, I think there’s a good argument that as a stand-alone movie……… it would have been better without Toby and Andrew. Actually in hindsight, they could have established Multiverse and kept some of the best elements by just including Doc Oc and Norman Osborne/Green Goblin (with Holland still fixing Doc Oc’s inhibitor chip, and them teaming up against Green Goblin). So I can see it both ways really. I like it for what it is, but as a standalone movie it obviously has large flaws. |
