[Off the rails? PM faces fresh Tory meltdown as furious MPs accuse him of broken vows and causing 'generations' of pain by downgrading flagship plans for 'Levelling Up' rail in North, sleaze storm rages on - and more polls show scale of the damage] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59334043 https://news.sky.com/story/eastern-l...firms-12471454 [The government has scrapped the Leeds leg of the HS2 high-speed rail line as part of a package that ministers promise will transform services. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has told the Commons the overhaul will bring faster journeys up to 10 years earlier than planned. HS2 trains were to run on a new East Midlands-Leeds high speed line, but will now run on existing routes. Critics accused Mr Shapps of breaking investment promises. Shadow transport secretary Jim McMahon said it was "the betrayal of trust, the betrayal of promises and the betrayal of investment the north of England and the Midlands deserve".] Yes No Money for North Rail Last edited by arista; 18-11-2021 at 01:27 PM. |

A slightly faster train service isn't worth the cost of the countryside and forestry it would destroy.

So much for levelling up.
The funds are available for the more Southern end but not the Northern. There'll be all and any kind of excuses made for this however, no doubt about that. |

Some MP's are Happy no new Line HS3
as would rip up homes. Those homes that were vacated stay empty in case it gets built, much later. The trouble with The Labour Party is they are just a split on what to do. Starmer could come out and say after the Election HS3 gets built But HE IS NOT |

Plenty of improvements going on here up north.
Railway stations upgraded. As long as there is a direct link from Darlington to London for all those new jobs that have been transferred up here. |
