Most people who have those can't afford to pay very far in front

Some people move into houses that already have them installed.

i just got notice of my new direct debit from april, it's not for the squeamish. All the contracts are more expensive though, so no way i'm signing up for that at the moment

Fixed contracts are not price capped so apparently in the short term, the best plan might be to go onto a standard tariff (which are capped)

I went over to Edf energy at first with the electric and then with gas. the gas meter has been a pre paid meter for over 20 years.
So my neighbor said I was paying more for it being pre paid. So today I rang up to change it over, I recently had a letter showing how much I had used over the year, it came to 750 pound To the woman said she would check wich was the best tariff for me She came back with non protective tarif that predicted my usage as 1800 or a protected fix rate of 3000 Can anyone explyhow this is possible? |

my gas is fixed for 2 years so im happy with that, but for electricity any long term protected plans right now will be about double the standard tariff and as prices are going up in april, they will be much more than last years prices. Thats what you are experiencing sheriff

Oh no, I'm English
|
We need to renationalise the industry.
I'm fortunate that I'm £1200 in credit, so I won't feel any pinch for a couple of years, but it's absolutely barbaric. I read a story the other day about a single parent with a severely disabled son who requires medical equipment on 24/7, and there is no way she can afford it. France capped their energy rises to 4%.

Luckily I discovered this week that my energy company has been massively over-estimating my electricity usage (we switched to them in October, the estimated reading on the latest bill was almost double what we've actually used in the last 5 months). We're slso not careful energy users at all... various computers/televisions are on all day whether someone's using them or not. Should really get on top of that. As for our gas usage it's extremely low, maybe £50 a month over winter and next to nothing over summer. So I don't think our increase will be too horrific once the fix runs out next year, so long as I can get them to accept that they're way overestimating our usage. Will proably just keep overpaying until then though for an extra buffer.

How do you rack up 1200 credit, you must never put your meter readings in
We have are trying to cut down on our gas and electric consumption, hope it helps

Ive stopped using my front door at the moment as I am open plan in the into the lounge and upstairs - the house is far warmer now I don't lose all the heat from most of the house when I open the front door. The back door is straight into the kitchen but the door to the rest of the house is always closed so I only lose heat from that one room. Delivery drivers think I'm mad when I run round from the back of the house when they knock
I rarely have my heating on after April so hoping that this first rise won't hit too hard

I think a big part of why my own electricity usage estimate was a lot higher than actual usage is the time of year I switched... Basically I think they took my summer electricity usage and projected that I'd use significantly more in winter months - which is actually not true. Our monthly electricity use is pretty stable across the year.
