It wasn't a hoax as such, it was an experimental art piece.

That has got to be the sickest thing Ive ever come across. Like Lauren said, this only take attention away from the truly suicidal patients.

Shouldn't people be happy this girl isn't committing suicide? Reading some of the comments on her blog it seems as if they actually wanted her to do it.

I don't know about the comments on the blog. I just think that people are a bit disgusted that she would use such a subject to get attention (and no matter what she claims, she is doing it to get attention). I wonder how people whose lives have actually been affected by suicide feel about her little project?

But how they feel about the project IS the art in it. You guys may not see it as art, but it is, it's an artistic study of mankind.

If she was doing it for attention, she'd let us know who she is, she'd accept the offers that have been given by television studios or whatever, but she's not.

We all are the art piece every time we comment here, or on the blog, or any time we give a reaction to this - therefore it was a very successful art project.

Well, I see what you are saying, but I don't agree. She has got people talking about her, and I could be entirely wrong, but I bet she is rubbing her hand in glee at all the attention she has got. I don't think she would reveal her identity - it would take away the mystery, and also, considering how many people think that what she is doing is morally questionable, she would receive a real backlash. She is getting a backlash as it is, but as most people do not know who she is, she is 'safe' at the moment. It's like people who cause trouble on an internet forum, just to gain attention; we don't know who they are either, but they get the attention they crave, all the same.

I just think it's very distasteful, is all.

Can I just add - I never said it wasn't art. As far as I'm concerned, art is what you want it to be, so while this isn't art for me, to someone else, it may be very artistic. But some subjects of art are very distasteful, and I feel that this is one of them. Art or not, it's just distasteful.

I suspect many of the negative comments on the blog stem from the fact that people believed she was a phoney all along.

In a sense, of course she's happy that she got attention - she did want attention, but not for attention-seeking purposes, it was all in order to gauge a reaction. I just think everyone should realize that there was a point to it, it wasn't just a mindless hoax.

I'm not trying to have an argument (honestly) but if someone doe something to get attention, then they are attention seeking aren't they?!

I think I know what you're trying to say though - the point is that neither of us actually know what her motivation was, it's all about the way we are reading the situation. We don't know that she is telling the truth about her motives for doing it - she won't reveal her identity, so how can we know? She could just as easily be lying about her art project, in the same way that she was lying about committing suicide.

No, because she wasn't trying to get attention for her sake, she was trying to get attention so she could monitor people's reactions. So in turn, it wasn't ever about her, it was about everyone who read it.

but how do we know that she is being honest about her motivations for doing it? She could be lying about that in the same way that she lied about committing suicide. For all we know, it could be some woman (or man) with nothing better to do.

But for all we know, she could be telling the truth, and we have her word to support, as opposed to just your natural suspicions which support your thoughts.

Yes, but she lied before. Why shouldn't she be lying now? She's already admitted that she was being untruthful.

Admittedly neither of us know whether she is being truthful or not. If her intention was to gauge people's reaction to suicide, I would say that it has not worked anyway. I doubt that most of the reactions on the blog are what people would say if they believed that she truly was suicidal. What she has actually managed to gather are the reactions of people who think that someone is starting a hoax blog about suicide.

Edit: I'm not arguing with you by the way; it's an interesting discussion. Obviously, I'm glad that she was not actually intending to kill herself.

That made me laugh when reading through it. She tries to come across as though shes sorry and she is looking into it but she was just attention seeking. Whether or not she has accepted offers for TV and books she (if its even a she) just wanted the attention. Mentioning the newsreader who shot herself live on air was in bad taste IMO. Yes, she was comparing herself to her but they were nothing like eachother. In her other blogs she was saying how she has no mental problems whereas that woman did.
