Default TV ad breaks could get longer : ITV /STV/Ch5/Ch4

Currently around 4 or 5mins

Ofcom to let it be 7 or 8mins

This stinks

In Today Times.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61997064

[The channels can run advertising breaks
of up to eight minutes per hour
during prime time periods of 18:00-23:00 and 07:00-09:00.]

[Other channels are allowed up to
nine minutes of advertising per hour of broadcasting,
plus an extra three minutes for teleshopping.]

[Discussing the review, an Ofcom spokesman
said the regulator needed
"to strike the right balance between protecting viewers'
interests and sustaining our traditional broadcasters".]

FFS it already feels like an eternity...when there's an AD break. I legit forget what I'm watching at times, that's how drawn out these ad breaks are . It's like losing your thread of thought.

It seems the adverts are more important than the ACTUAL DAMN programme ITSELF. The breaks already annoy me as it is ,to the point where I try to watch more things online.

But I still watch TV at times, and what's irritating...is when a TV show or movie is literally nearly finished ,and they still squeeze in ANOTHER AD break.

I record so much on Commercial channels
that way I can Fast Forward all the ads

Or Pause the Live TV for 25mins
then Fast forward all the ads.

Ad breaks are normally every 15mins

Of course, we soon noticed Ch5HD
putting ads after just 7mins
when they had the big hit,
Big Brother was on.

This is why Streamers won the war.

Most people don't want to watch 8 minutes of Adverts just to then get 5 minutes of an episode before another break.

Hardly

As Netflix will soon add ads

As they are low on cash.

i'm already used to ad breaks

and as for only streaming service i got, is Disney+

not keeping Netflix for just one series where i can also try to acquire it through simple search online for a good download link, like with Stranger Things now, and i'm also going to try for jurassic world: camp cretaceous season 5 if there'll be something at least somewhat decent for me to download

apart from those series, netflix has got lots of rubbish not in my tastes unlike disney+ where i'm still amazed by so much variety in terms of disney/marvel/nat geo/star, few football documentaries

I heard on the news that the adverts might be more frequent too.

I'll just watch my DVD's and Blu Rays even more, no adverts on those.

To be fair it's eight minutes per hour, not per ad break. Assuming there's an adbreak every fifteen mins or so, is it really that bad?

And then Disney+ will become the number one streaming platform, or Amazon Prime.

Most people don't want to watch loads of Adverts inbetween their TV Shows, it kills the flow for a lot of people, and speaking for myself I know that I mainly watch things online nowadays to avoid the Ads.

Personally speaking Adverts are already too long, they need to be cutting them down not making them longer.

I very rarely watch tv shows live anymore unless it’s football or it’s just something in the background that I’m not really paying attention to. I record most shows and just watch them later when I have time.

I feel like this is kinda expected, TV has changed a lot over the last couple decades which is obviously reflected in ratings for shows particularly in prime time hours. The channels have probably been losing money for some time now thanks to streaming and this probably the only way to try and recoup the losses?

I feel like they're scoring an own goal with this though.

More adverts will mean less run time for the episodes, meaning the quality will be hurt by having less time to tell the story, therefore more people will just gravitate towards Streaming than they already are (even though their model has it's own problems imo) but classic TV used to be so much better in the 90's & 00's (the peak eras for TV Shows imo) because they had longer runtimes to tell their story because there were less Adverts, which in turn made the episodes have better quality and more ratings, thus making more money than they probably are right now.

I agree with you on the strategy that they're using, but ultimately it'll see them lose more people.
