what will be interesting is how many of her supporters will switch to Truss. Steve Baker will, but apart from him, who knows

There does seem to be a movement now to push for Truss.
Not the wisest move I'd say. Anytime she comes out her door, she rarely seems to know which way she's supposed to go, even to getting into a car. I can't see her as Premier signifying any shape or form of necessary change. She will have to reward Rees-Mogg and the deluded Nadine Dorries for their over the top suppport. Surely at their now 3rd attempt in 6 years this present Con party is going to elect another disaster as their PM in office. Tonight's debate may help but somehow I doubt it. For me, the real change candidate for as near a fresh start hard learned, is likely to be out on Monday. Namely Tom Tugendhat. I'm now of the view Labour needn't concern itself with which one wins now Mordaunt just brings Theresa May back to mind. Truss would be a mess too. Sunak with his experience of Chancellor was on paper the most able. I can't see even the Cons risking Kemi. Starmer should get down to forming a good set of firm policies. If he'd listen, get PR iny his future plans too. Really get the Lib Dems and all other Parties at Westminster easily and fully on board. He could then claim to be the one who is going to ensure, complete change for real votes to make EVERY vote cast really count in ALL elections. No fears at all of any of these Con leadership contenders ever even looking at PR either. So a unique position to take for Labour on this if they really want to win at the next election. I think we need to look at the big picture. The economy is such that whoever becomes the leader/pm is going to be out on their ass in 2 years time and if that happens it will be time for another new leader ready to battle in 6 years time. I think thats inevitable now

I hate the idea of them all scurrying around in the shadows , making deals and offers .
Why can’t they all just do the right thing and simply vote for the person who will be the best for the country Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

i don't think it's ever been as obvious before in previous leadership elections, that the mp's are just not trustworthy at all. I think it is a sad sign of the times

I started off not wanting Rishi, Hunt, Sajid or Truss.
Not at all sure who I would like, but after all the carrying on and learning more about newcomers I am now thinking Rishi looks more promising. Penny, Tom or Rishi for me. |

I strongly disagree. Up to three quarters of Labour members now want PR. Labour voters too. There's around a quarter of eligible voters who don't vote, partly because they feel their votes are meaningless. It's far from only the Lib Dems arista. In fact EVERY Party elected to Westminster including the UNDemocratic Unionists in N.Ireland. Would welcome PR. Only the Con Party and Con voters are against it. PR is used in the N Irish, Welsh and Scottish assemblies. PR is used for London Mayor and all other Mayoral elections . Plus for Police and Crime commissioner elections too. It's only in general and council elections it isn't. PR would remove in my view, extremes of government and extreme Prime Ministers too. More concensus politics would likely be more evident. Since NO Party could likely ever govern again with strong absolute power with only 40% + of votes given to it. This dinosaur like system we have now which was fine when the leading Parties like Cons and Labour got we'll over 80% of the votes cast between them. Not now. This present government and Prime Minister have highlighted how wrong the political system and set up is. The Cons will never want PR because they are happy to execute absolute power from a minority of votes. If Starmer can be persuaded by those Labour MPs who also want PR, to make it policy. He, I believe would lead Labour to a really strong victory in the next election. By offering real and necessary change to have voters to feel their votes really now do matter and count. The Cons dread PR and for obvious reasons too but only reasons of their own extreme self interest. Last edited by joeysteele; 15-07-2022 at 11:35 AM. |

If rishi wins it will be like living in a care home in the 80s and finding out jimmy saville isnt visiting today, only to hear the sound of a didgerydoo echoing up the hallways as you drift of to sleep.
