Brown knows that Boris is a lame duck PM and cobra meetings are not meant for things like that, so the whole thing is a sideshow

Yes indeed.
It's really bad that there's no real governmental response to the endless building up to this cost of living crisis getting worse. Crisis meetings are important and as Brown says for really more help to be in place for October, so those crisis meetings and any further help should be being held now and plans beginning to enact the setting up of all help. There's a probable disaster looming and with an absent government with a divided leadership contest of 2 candidates not even in agreement how to start to solve this crisis. Is frankly the most gross of incompetence and total failure. |

The meetings are for any regional or national crises. Also anything internationally that could affect the UK negatively There's cobra meetings been held for floods even. We have a cost of living crisis. We have the climate concerning issues of dangers to safety and health. A looming disaster as to energy across the Nation. Plus more fears of Russian control on gas supplies which IS affecting us and other Countries. Industrial disputes looming too on a fast growing scale. Plus the now expected crisis in and more to hit the NHS. I'd say it's past already the desperate stage where cobra meetings of the government should be taking place. On ANY and ALL of those critical issues affecting the Country and citizens of the UK. Last edited by joeysteele; 08-08-2022 at 06:43 PM. |

Conservative leadership candidate Rishi Sunak has vowed to provide more money to help people with their energy bills, if he becomes prime minister.
The exact amount of further support is yet to be determined and will depend on increases to the energy price cap. The energy regulator Ofgem is due to announce a rise to the cap - the maximum amount suppliers can charge customers per unit - on 26 August. Liz Truss's campaign accused Mr Sunak of making "another big U-turn". "Three weeks ago he was saying more borrowing was irresponsible and inflationary - has he changed his mind? How can Rishi's borrowing not be inflationary, but Liz's tax cuts are? Intellectually it's as watertight as a sieve," a source in the Truss camp said. In a statement, Mr Sunak said he wanted to keep "any one-off borrowing to an absolute minimum" and would "first seek efficiency savings across Whitehall to provide direct support for families to help with the unprecedented situation we face". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-62471778 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Rishi certainly changes his position when he thinks he is going to lose |

[Cost of living: People turning back to cash
as prices rise] [People are going back to cash to keep tighter control on their spending as living costs soar, according to new research by the Post Office. Post offices handled £801m in personal cash withdrawals in July, the most since records began five years ago. That's up more than 20% from a year earlier.] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62437819 |

The pair of them have certainly learned the art of deceiving just like the outgoing leader.
Truss has backtracked on a fair few things it's hard to actually believe much she spouts out. How I hope she wins. She's so far removed from the reality of the crisis looming ahead that she's likely to prove a bigger disaster than Mrs May. To be fair to Sunak, he has stepped up in the furlough to protect and help all people. So he has a track record on doing that. However as to both, the Cons are about to choose another inappropriate leader and PM needed for the times we are in and heading further down into now. IF Labour had another leader who was not robotic like and monotonous as Starmer. Then Labour maybe could have been heading for a really big win in a couple of years or so. However, with either of these 2 wrong ones, Labour and the Lib Dems should work together and in the next election they'd not need to do too much of anything to see either of Sunak or Truss off. Not for love to the Lib Dems or Labour but from contempt and utter dismay towards the Cons for inflicting NOW the 3rd worst PM on the UK in the last near 4 years only while even in power.
