Beaches in East Sussex have been closed after untreated wastewater was released into the sea at the shoreline.
Beaches in Bexhill and Normans Bay were shut after "significant" electrical issues at a pumping station. In neighbouring Hastings, the borough council also advised people from swimming at Pelham Beach due to a pollution risk. A Southern Water spokesman said the firm was "deeply sorry" and it understood "the distress this causes". The liquid, including sewage, started being released when the primary power and back-up system failed on Wednesday.
Power was restored by the evening, with emergency generators in place. Juliette Wills is a member of the Bexhill SeaGals, a sea-swimming group with about 1,000 members. She said the sewage release will affect her mental and physical health because the swimming sessions were more than just a "splash around", and that they also help her while living with a disability. She believes water companies should be "held accountable", and added: "It is unbelievable and outrageous that the water companies can just continue to get away with this." https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-sussex-62589667 |

These rotten useless water companies paying themselves millions and have not improved one iota for years, they all need bringing to book as they seem happier to pay the fines and keep polluting rather than fix any problems. The whole country are sick of these robbing gits ! Funny how we have to pay fortunes to be 'green' and they fill the sea and waterways with s**t.

Last Night ITV1HD Tonight
"Who Is Polluting Our Water" Last night 8:30PM It showed the state of the Wye and the sewage that is poured into it. It is just a matter of time before it enters our supply. Much too much sewage is coming from some Industrial Chicken Farms. One good farm had a Furnace to burn the chicken poop into a safe ash. But that investment is rare. George Eustice MP would not speak on this programme. Last edited by arista; 19-08-2022 at 02:26 AM. |

Apparently some companies in the Lake District have been pumping waste chemicals and sewage into Lake Windermere for years .
It showed ONE scientist in a little boat taking samples and he’s supposed to keep check on all the lakes .. Windermere could become “ecologically dead” because of the amount of sewage being pumped into its waters, campaigners have warned. Quote “The number one thing that is killing Windermere is phosphorus pollution,” he says. Staniek says the data shows there's a direct correlation between Lake Windermere's water quality and the sewage that is being pumped into it. “Sewage adds phosphorus into the water, which acts as a fertiliser for algae,” he explains” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Last edited by Zizu; 29-08-2022 at 01:01 PM. |
