Default ByElection : West Lancs Thursday, 9 February 2023

This Thursdsay
voters will need Photo ID.

[The first by-election of 2023
will take place in February after a
Labour MP quit for a role in the NHS.
A writ has been moved - meaning the
correct paperwork has been filed - for the
West Lancashire by-election.

The seat is up for grabs after Rosie Cooper
formally resigned as an MP
in November to become chairwoman
of the Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Ms Cooper, 72, has held the
Labour stronghold since 2005,
securing more than 52% of the vote
and a majority of 8,336 at the last election.

Having been created in 1983, the seat was held
by Tory MP Ken Hind between then
and 1992, when Labour's Colin Pickthall won it.
Labour has had control of the constituency
ever since.
Ms Cooper, who was the target of a murder plot
by a neo-Nazi in 2017, said the events she
had faced over recent years had "taken their toll".

Jack Renshaw, of Skelmersdale, Lancashire,
is currently serving a life sentence for planning to kill her.]

Very low turnout as usual.

However this isn't the resounding win it seems.
It would be enough to see Labour win the next election and it wasn't a seat likely to fall anyhow.

We really need a Con challenged by Labour seat to get the real likely position of those 2 parties.
A satisfying result for us but not one that says all is assured as to certainty although it would see the Cons well beaten in the next election with NO chance of still governing.

Was expected.

She started shouting for a General Election?
it was like Starmer had Programmed her

Well that's the mantra now from all parties except the Cons.
If the roles were reversed the Cons would be screaming now for an election too.

I actually was expecting a bigger majority myself however here at this time.

(Although looking at in on a what if line.
If on a turnout which was the general election one of 2019.
With the votes going roughly the same percentages.

Then the majority would have been more 18,000+
With the around 60% vote for Labour and around 25% for Cons.
That would be a bigger result than was achieved in this seat even in 1997).
