Default PM Rishi Sunak is the same as New Labours PM Gordon Brown

PM Gordon Brown
one year on,
was to have a General Election.
But his advisers warned him of the seats he could lose.
So he hanged on to the last date
And Lost
To Conservative/LibDem Power 2010

Of Course
John Major had a General Election
and beat that horrid Welsh Kinnock.
A Good Example after her took over from Thatcher.

General Election now Expected next year

The mess this Tory government has left behind is unthinkable and probably irrepairable even if the country does somehow vote them out. I have little faith that we'll even manage that.

they will delay it as long as possible hoping for their ratings to improve. We can never be 100% sure, but it should be about the scale of their loss.

The basic problem is that labour wont be any better, but it is important to stop people being in power too long, so the tories must lose the next election

I didn't think Rishi ever wanted a General Election before it's next scheduled anyway? He has no reason to, in slotted into a stonking great majority.

Did the others have longer between the time they took over, and the date of the next scheduled election?

Oh and

Loads of pm's have gone for a GE early when they think they can win. May being the obvious example

After being totally demoralised in 2019 after I was involved in the then Labour campaign.
I am sorry to Corbyn supporters here but I found beyond measure on the doorsteps, that the policies were okay but people were going to vote Con or another party to keep Corbyn OUT.

It may well have been unfair but that's what I got fired at me constantly and the worst happened.

I never however believed there was a way back by 2024 for Labour.
I firmly believed the best we could hope for was a vastly reduced overall majority for the Cons or more hopefully to remove their overall majority.

There now seems to be a more than good chance Labour can win and although I'm sad and even angry that Starmer has discarded good policies in my view.
I will be going all out again canvassing for Labour to get this absolute shambles of a failed list of PMs and Ministers OUT of power.

IF Labour get an overall majority I'll be pleased to see the back of this despicable government.
However I won't really be pleased if for 43%+of votes cast, Labour end up with an over inflated overall majority such as Johnson's Cons got in 2019.

Look, for me, any result in the next election that ends up with this heartless, hard-line, endlessly deceitful government unable to form a government and therefore continue in power, will leave me extremely satisfied.

It can be that IF a government, when the Country would like a clear the air election, keeps them waiting right to the end of a term or tries to.
Then the voters turn more strongly away from them.

As with Douglas-Home in 1964.
Callaghan in 1979.
Brown in 2010.

It did work for Major after Thatcher but only just.
The Cons majority slashed from 102 to 21 in 1992.

Major was a world away as to Con politicians compared to this bunch of incompetents playing musical chairs as to both being PM and Ministers.
Sunak does still have a fair bit of negative baggage from all his time as a Cabinet Minister and his manipulation of his number crunching speeches could well turn off voters more than interest them.

As to Brown.
For me, I'd have preferred Brown to Blair as leader actually.
I think he'd have done more probably for the weakest, poorest, vulnerable, sick and disabled.
None of those groups will ever have any real hope under Sunak and his current bunch of heartless hard-line incompetents.

If the snap election was held within a week of her calling it, I genuinely think she would have led her party to annihilate Corbyn's.

But seeing her in interviews, and hearing a bit of what Corbyn had to say, turned a fair amount of people off her.

I think there was a lot of anti-Corbyn sentiment Joey but unfortunately a big part of that is that Tory campaigners are - sadly - a bit too good at getting into the heads of the GBP with character assassinations. They managed a similar feat with Milliband based on;

1) He looks like claymation
2) He looked a bit funny eating a sandwich one time

In the run up to the next GE they will 100% certainly concentrate not on policy or debate... but on making whoever the Labour PM candidate at the time is (probably Starmer, but you never know) "unelectable" in the minds of the public for [insert whatever reasons here].

HOPEFULLY the financial pain normal people are feeling currently is enough to over-ride that this time round, but I just wouldn't bank on it. I can absolutely see Joe Public saying "Well yeah my gas bill is Ł400 and my rent is Ł1000 on a monthly income of Ł1200 but apparently the Labour candidate has toenail fungus so..."

I agree with every bit of that.
I'm not predicting or have any expectations.
Just hoping.

I do however think the opportunity is there which I never expected could or would be.
The poll leads I've never thought were probably accurate.

They were atrocious against Miliband I agree there too.
Ridiculous fuss over a sandwich.
Sadly campaigning across the board from all has now descended into being absurd.

the vast majority of voters are no longer interested in policies or issues that can't be described in 3 words. That's where we are as a country now. That's what attack adverts concentrate on. The party that best uses that will win the next election

The Tories have had too long to implant a mindset though in my opinion - that mindset being, "if you can't tough it out - you are weak". A vote for labour is weak. A vot for hope of better is weak. Accepting a hard-line Tory government is "strong" and what "tough people" do.

Very hard to combat at this point. They've got the country wearing misery like a badge of honour.

Yes Joey,
Starmer has to not make any Big Errors

The New Tweet saying
Sunak wants 15% Council Tax

But it is only the twice bankrupt
Croydon Labour Council,
that used 15% Council Tax.
