I agree with some of your criticism of Village Mock apart from it being too serious. I found having giant vampires, werewolves, talking dolls etc as enemies leaned too much into the wacky and took away from the horror for me. RE7 I felt was a lot more darker tonely and a step back towards RE's survival horror roots so this being the sequel to that game I did find a bit disappointing.

RE has always been goofy though, if anything 7 was uncharacteristically un-goofy. I would agree though that (much like 4/5/6) Resi Village isn't actually scary at all... it's firmly in the horror action category and the stronger you make the player character, the less scary a game becomes ... as a rule of thumb. e.f. Resi 5 (which I actually really enjoyed as a "fun" game) just isn't scary in the slightest, because Chris is a walking tank.
