I'm shocked this season ended up in high yellow but alas! I was torn with whether to put it above or below Fiji, but this was absolutely better than the entire 33-40 era sans David vs. Goliath. And that's in spite of production! The production decisions were awful this season with the cheesy Ausvivor editing and absurd twists that really made The Monster feel like the 19th player. Thankfully though, Jesse Tannenbaum did a great job of casting and this season miraculously didn't fall apart by the time the tribes merged, and I'm surprised that the show was able to hold my interest all the way through? There is still so much wrong with this show and it will never, EVER change unfortunately, but if we can continue to get great casts that can shine in spite of the show's flaws then I think we'll actually be okay for a little bit. It's a pleasant surprise because I went in expecting the worst and was actually moderately impressed.

The unthinkable has happened --- a modern season of Survivor has A) finished in green, B) cracked my top 15! As I said in another thread, this season has been good and fun and VERY refreshing. It's still modern Survivor, but the twists aren't quite as suffocating as in most previous seasons, the edit was largely balanced and nuanced, and while there wasn't one individual I loved as an all-time favorite, the cast as a whole is greater than the sum of its parts because these people had very interesting dynamics with each other and bounced off of each other very well. I can't believe that this show tricked me into actually getting excited about it again, but here we are? Here's to hoping The New Era can continue to give us more seasons like this because realistically I think it's about as good as it's ever going to get again.

Other changes:
-Marquesas randomly jumped up from #10 to #4?! The more I think about it the more I realize I was criminally underrating the season at #10, it's so damn good
-swapped China and Cagayan just because
-also swapped Fiji and 41 just because
-changed my bottom yellow rankings from WaW>IotI>EoE>GC to EoE>IoTI>WaW>GC because Winners at War really ages worse over time

This season... was not very good but I don't entirely hate it? The cast was lame and the editing and storytelling was lame but I actually think there could've been a half-decent season in there so that makes me less inclined to actually hate and dislike it. There was way too much telling versus showing so that made the whole thing feel low stakes, but I only actively disliked the season for a few episodes in the mid-merge? I was able to get through the premerge perfectly fine and the endgame was actually somewhat good so I'll generously rank this a lower yellow. It's not really worth the price of admission and I won't be clamoring to rewatch this anytime soon, but I just can't find myself to actually hate it for some reason?

I don't know y'all, Survivor: Numbers is just so samey at this point. In some regards I think this season was much closer in quality to 42 than it is to 41/43, but then I do the rankings and I don't see how I can justify ranking this season any higher? Like, seasons like Fiji and South Pacific certainly have their flaws but they at least fundamentally feel like Survivor, which is saying A LOT since one of those seasons has Redemption Island in it. I thought the editing was a little uneven in terms of what was emphasized, the cast really only had a few studs, and everyone was a little too lovey-dovey for my liking. The game just feels so low stakes these days, it's kinda sad. There's definitely New Era fatigue so I can't see this season moving over time but I don't even know if it's going to move up or down.

I have a hard time placing this season! It was definitely one of the better seasons of the New Era but I think it's still flawed and VERY overrated by the fanbase. 90 minute episodes are entirely not necessary, the season peaked very early, and the editing wasn't really THAT even and was kind of a mess from a narrative standpoint? That being said, the season still had quite a few good characters and exceeded my expectations significantly, so even though I probably wouldn't ever want to rewatch this based on runtime alone I enjoyed it while it aired?

Also, I dropped 44 about 5 spots because it really doesn't age well at all

I for one am ****ing shocked that a Survivor season in 2024 came this close to cracking my top 10, but this season was really good!!! We had a cast full of mean-spirited crazies who clashed with each other both on and off the show, and it's the most HUMAN drama we've had in a loooooong time. I mean, it's the most drama period we've had in a long time because this show is so formulaic and hollow now, but even better is the fact that the drama we're getting is REAL and AUTHENTIC. Like even as I'm writing this up I'm reflecting on the fact that Venus and Q were feuding through Cameos the other day and then Maria fully cropped Venus out of a #FreePalestine picture and they're feuding on it over Twitter. This season exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable and it really was one of the most fun viewing experiences in a looooong time.

Also I moved South Pacific up a few spots and more importantly, from yellow to green!

#30 seems about right for this season. Some moderate highs and lows don't make up for the fact that this cast was REALLY bland and forgettable and was composed of a bunch of people I don't really care to ever see again. Just felt like a New Era season going through the motions.

Moved 44 down to the VERY bottom of yellow because I think it lowkey ages terribly and is probably the worst New Era season really? It might actually be red but I'm not sure if I care enough to put it down there. Also moving Thailand up to the bottom of the yellow because old school bias is a thing!
