Statement regarding online reports of attacks in Middlesbrough.

We are aware of commentary online regarding alleged acid attacks in Middlesbrough today.
Cleveland Police has not, to date, received any formal complaint from any victim or anyone on their behalf.
We did receive limited information from a third party earlier this evening regarding a possible incident in central Middlesbrough,
The caller was unfortunately unable to provide exact details of the location, nature of the incident, registration number of any vehicle, or description of any occupants, nevertheless officers did attend the area - with nothing being found and no victim coming forward.
The force has not received notification from medical colleagues of any such incident either therefore our log has been closed, pending receipt of any new information.
If anyone believes they or someone they know has been subject to such an incident, we would urge them to contact Cleveland Police and to seek urgent medical attention.

Social media really is a toxic cess pit , I hope those attacks are false ( mainly because it's so horrendous), but then on the other hand if people are putting out false narratives about fake violence and ( which unfortunately happens) ....then that's probably going to still stir up more mindless rioting & hatred.

…I picked one on the incidents out, which is the acid attack on a Muslim Woman in Middlesbrough…because I thought that it would be the quicker/Google one…and that one doesn’t appear to have truth in it as the police have already investigated…I won’t assume that the others don’t have truth but I won’t Google them all right at this moment…what it does show, though…is the wilful and deliberate lies to incite and to a point where these untruths could actually turn into truths…very despicable….
