Generally speaking, that's just not my kind of horror.

Similarly, I recently watched The First Omen after hearing such good things about it. I thought that was an overhyped piece of shite. The only great part was when Damien was finally born and the classic Jerry Goldsmith latin chant kicked in.
I actually quite liked the First Omen, i probably enjoyed that more because I didn't realise it was even supposed to be connected to the Omen series until the end (yes I know it was called the first omen but omen is also just a word that is likely to be used in any film like that)

…The Grand Seduction……just a really solid wholesome movie about a harbour town struggling to support itself …it doesn’t rely on anything other than a good story, great and likeable characters to root for and excellent acting……8.5/10…

So there's no bad ass Femme Fetale kicking ass?

But being serious, I do like to see stuff do well that isn't overly relying on gimmicks.

…it’s just a total absolute delight of a story…a great autumn/winter afternoon movie…(…although I watched it in an evening and it was equally gorgeous…)…

That's great to hear.

It's good to see that we (as in the public) are starting to get away from everything having to be a Superhero Movie.

I fancied an “easy watch” last night before bed and found a lovely little gem of a film on Netflix.

Our Souls at Night”, starring Robert Redford and Jane Fonda. Basically about two widowed, lonely, old neighbours who find solace and belonging in each other. Really lovely, gentle film.

@LaLaLand

…I’m having a home alone day and just felt like making it a movie day…on your recommendation I’ve just finished watching this…just such an easy and endearing movie and Jane Fonda and Robert Redford made the characters look so…effortless…a lovely gem…

Aw that’s fantastic! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I love films like that. Perfect “sofa with a blanket and a cuppa” movie.

No offense here, but is that seriously the name of the Film?

Yeah it is. But of a strange one.

It’s adapted from a book of the same name.

Fair enough.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it, regardless of what I personally think of the title.

…The Water Diviner…this was another find that was actually pretty good, very heartfelt and I think, based on a true story…an Australian man travels to Turkey after the Battle of Gallipoli to try to locate the bodies of his three sons and bring them back to their home country…the scenery is beautiful and a very emotional story, liked it a lot…7/10…

The Autopsy of Jane Doe……very creepy and very claustrophobic and totally relying on scare and atmosphere and building tension and anticipation, rather than on gore and screen violence…it really did trigger every claustrophobic bone in my body …very well done…6.5/10….

I watched Uglies last night and it was a bit cheesy and silly 5/10

…it was so layered I thought because other than the horror aspect, there was also that touching on Salem and all of the young females being completely innocent but so horrifically and horrendously treated and how the tragedy of it all was…as well as creating something evil where none had existed in the first place, for the horror story aspect…she wanted others to experience what she had suffered in her tortures and continued to suffer endlessly because what had been created was immortal suffering and pain….so tragic and horrifically sad…

…Felon……a prison life story that was really very good and it was lovely to see and feel the screen presence of Val Kilmer…another movie which was just a random choice but was a complete gem…obviously brutal because of the content but very well done with solid characters…7/10…

Inside Out

Was decent. I mainly watched it because a friend said her therapist recommended it to her when she was in a bit of a slump and she wanted to share it with me. So that was my good deed for the day. Pixar's one of those cases where there's a special place in my heart for the stuff that came out when I was a child (e.g., Toy Story, A Bug's Life), but where I just can't summon up as much enthusiasm for the later stuff, no matter how good they might turn out to be. I liked Inside Out well enough, but I didn't love it.

Inside Out was too dreary imo, it didn't understand how to be an entertaining kids Movie.
@Ray.

I watched the first Final Destination a few days ago, and I really enjoyed it.

But I remember liking the third one when I was younger, so I'm not too surprised that I liked the first one.

Well, all I'll say is that I definitely didn't like it nearly as much as my friend. But sometimes you've got to pull your punches a bit when it's someone you care about, caring about something so deeply, etc.

On the other hand, all the Final Destination movies are fun in their own way. IIRC, the third movie is a fan favourite on account of all the black comedy in it. Growing up with the series, my personal favourite was the first movie and how seriously it took its premise. I'll have to rewatch them again at some point. So that could change. I think the second movie is usually held up as the series' pinnacle.

@ray…I haven’t seen Inside Out, I haven’t got around to it but for a Pixar movie I would recommend Coco, that’s such a lovely watch…

I'm planning on rewatching a lot of Pixar stuff in the coming weeks anyway, @Ammi. I think that's one of the few that passed me by. So I'll be sure to pay special attention to that particular one as per your recommendation. And if it's terrible, I'll never forgive you.

You're a better person than me, as I can't hold back if I don't like something.

I have been meaning to get around to Final Destination 2, but like with Blade and Tron, I have been really slow at getting back around to them.
