I absolutely agree with you. Good for a day/evening (occasional night, even) out and definitely a bit better than Liverpool (which is otherwise a much better city) for economic opportunity but it’s just all a bit grim and toxic in the atmosphere. Not my thing. I either have to have a specific reason to be there or be visiting family to want to go to Manchester. No-doubt there’s stuff to do in Manny but like you say the atmosphere is just grim.
