She cleverly tried to paint it as protecting Lily, but Dean saw the risk and headed it off by throwing Khaled out there instead. And she didn't have an argument; there was possibly no one else she wanted to put at risk. I'm not sure if she wanted to put Khaled at risk, really, but was cornered.
