After importing the clips to the collection folder, highlight the clip required. You will then see a screen on the right with the image of the first frame from the clip and a slider underneath but above the standard play button.
Move the slider along to the position you want. You can tell this by what you see on the screen or from the time index below the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
Now there are two buttons, one looks like a camera (unless it's vista) and the other looks like two frames of movie film with a broken line between. That is the splicer, and at the point you want, you splice the image.
In the collection folder you wil now see two files now, one with the original file name and one with the file name plus a (1)
The clip with the original file name, if you want the first five minutes is the one you drag to either the storyboard or the time frame, which ever you have set as the default. As a nice touch it is best to have the effect fade to black and a fade out on the sound as well.
If you wanted after the five minutes, it is the clip with the (1) you want. Any further splicing gives a (2), (3) and so forth.
In the timeline you do any fine tuning as required
