Why do they always do this on a bank holiday weekend? I have had to change my plans and go away today and have had to fork out for a hotel tonight. It takes the mick.

As people are not at work, less people will be travelling and travel times are not deemed to be critical

It's ridiculous though as people go away on bank holiday weekends. My travel today takes 4 hrs 20 mins with no changes. Tomorrow morning it would take 7.5 hours with multiple changes and bus replacement services.

Buy a car

Only joking. I understand what you're going through. A journey like that takes long enough without the threat or Rail works

The work needs to be done to ensure a safe railway, and the bank holiday is the best time to do it.

That's just the way it is

They should get the work done at night when the majority of people are not using the trains.

Sitcks is right. A public holiday is the best time to do the maintenance and repairs.
