I'm not really sure what I mean by this, but just go with it
![]() At work the other day, I walked past several posters which said choir for years 2-6 will open soon. I asked my co-worker who she thought would join the choir, and she didn't know what I was talking about. I said auditions (so-called, everyone who wants to can join) would be soon, but I didn't know why I knew that. She saw the posters, but as she didn't "actively read" them, they were just scenery. I clocked the words without really noticing the posters themselves, so my subconscious must have read the words and fed me the information, without the ME-me trying to notice. I can think of other examples, like someone wondering where the exit was, and I was like, "um, maybe the door with EXIT written on it?" but it didn't look like a usual exit sign. Like I said I'm not really sure what I mean, but does it make sense to anyone else? ![]()

…I’m joking…you mean that you always actively read any signs around you but that others don’t always…?…

Being dyslexic and very un-observant I rarely notice signs at all .. that includes the ones over shops , in supermarkets or even road signs ( side of the road or on the floor) !
Even if I do see them I am pretty likely to MISread signs or text in books etc… I have a habit of misreading things or predicting what comes next so I sometimes take words from one line and join them up with words from the line ( or two ) below and end up with a hybrid sentence that makes sense but is 100% inaccurate .. I occasionally do the same with words on different sentences . I once read an unbelievable news story about a young surgeon who experimented/ operated on his PARENTS !!! I was amazed by this and read through the whole page long article only to get to the end where I realised it was PATIENTS not PARENTS !! All the way through I was so imagining scenarios where he was operating on his mum or dad !! I still have flashbacks of the surgeon who operated on his own PARENTS though !! I get what you mean. I unintentionally read signs a lot of the time and can recall info from them not knowing I actually read it

Signs that are duplicated a lot, you process and understand them without really taking notice of them.
Go into a pub with a gents and ladies toilets and you really don't read the signs before picking the right one. Replace it with images of male and female animals etc and you have to stare at them for a while to understand them ![]() |
