From what I understood, he was fundraising off their backs to try to essentially use his influence to purchase power to remake the party to his preferred choices and that was a no no. It's an interesting find this new "out" though they've found about whether the process wasn't run correctly, because they were pretty adamant the first time about sticking to rules when running through the process so as to ensure a diverse result.. so it's kind of odd they missed anything procedural at all in the selection. But that's typical of the DNC to shift the rules around when it serves them.
