Default Disney Plus begins promoting Hulu originals internationally

Quote:
This week, Disney released a new poster and teaser trailer for an upcoming legal drama, “All’s Fair,” which his about a team of female divorce attorneys leave a male-dominated firm to open their own powerhouse practice. Fierce, brilliant, and emotionally complicated, they navigate high-stakes breakups, scandalous secrets, and shifting allegiances—both in the courtroom and within their own ranks. In a world where money talks and love is a battleground, these women don’t just play the game—they change it.

What was interesting about this news was that the poster for Canada was slightly different, with a Hulu Originals logo on it, with a reference to Hulu On Disney+. The trailer for the show also featured a Hulu Originals logo at the end. This is the first time Hulu has been advertised on any Disney+ promotional material in Canada, since Hulu doesn’t exist outside the US (and Japan, though that’s operated by Disney). Though it’s important to note that the Hulu logo wasn’t used in the promotion of “All’s Fair” in other territories like the UK or Australia.

Generally, Disney hasn’t used the Hulu branding outside of the US especially while it has been navigating its legal situation with Comcast, which owned 33% of Hulu until last year, when Disney agreed to buy Comcast’s stake out as part of an agreement made in 2019 following Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox. Comcast and Disney have been in a legal dispute over the final valuation of Hulu, so Disney never wanted to add more value to the Hulu brand by making it a global household name like it is in the US.

Instead, Disney uses the generic Star brand, which was part of its Indian Hotstar business, that it acquired as part of its purchase of 20th Century Fox, as its general entertainment hub on Disney+ around the world. Resulting in Hulu Originals being rebranded to Star Originals outside the US. While Disney used the Star Brand more when the hub was initially added in 2021, over the past few years, it’s slowly been removing the Star logo from any promotion, though it has varied its promotion in some regions.

However, ever since Disney announced it was going to be entering into a new business agreement with Reliance Ltd in India, resulting in Disney+ Hotstar being rebranded JioHotstar, I’ve been expecting Disney to rebrand Star to Hulu internationally, once it finalised its deals with Reliance and Comcast.

The inclusion of a Hulu Originals logo on a Disney+ poster in Canada could be a good indication that Hulu is soon going to become the general entertainment brand of Disney+ around the world. Doing so will allow Disney to have a more simplistic global brand for its general entertainment that they can built around. Ultimately, I suspect Disney+ and Hulu in the United States will also eventually merger together, bringing the platform inline with how it operates internationally.
yes, here we have the Star logo, instead of the Hulu logo

but maybe this could change soon then even for us in europe and the rest of the world

Hulu has more content in the US than we have with the Star brand

for example, under Hulu, they have the series Smallville on Disney+ in the US (and tbh it was recently removed from HBO Max i noticed, so i wonder if we over here will also get this bigger Hulu content)

official, Disney+ now 100% owner of Hulu, and will begin to roll out this internationally as well, to replace the Star logo most likely

not much will be removed, considering whats in Star now, already is majority of Hulu content, but just more content being added, whatever has been on Hulu, will now be on Disney+

amazing

maybe, i don't know

its important news regarding one of the major streaming services though, which i myself think of a very great move in terms of the streaming wars

Hulu has delivered quite decent series lately + more hyped up projects to come, Alien: Earth, as well as a new Power Rangers series, and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival

makes sense for Disney to fully own Hulu and US and Internationally wise
