Default \'Deathly Hallows\' split confirmed

Warner Bros has confirmed it will split Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final instalment in the wizard franchise, into two films.

Part I will be released in November 2010 with Part II following in May 2011, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Star Daniel Radcliffe admitted splitting the book into two was the best way to end the series.

"I think it's the only way you can do it, without cutting out a huge portion of the book," he said. "There have been compartmentalized subplots in the other books that have made them easier to cut - although those cuts were still to the horror of some fans - but the seventh book doesn't really have any subplots. It's one driving, pounding story from the word go."

Author J.K. Rowling signed off on the two-part idea and producer David Heyman said it would be impossible to do Deathly Hallows justice by compressing it into one film.

Heyman said: "Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book. You can remove scenes of Ron playing Quidditch from the fifth book, and you can remove Hermione and S.P.E.W. [Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare] and those subplots.... but with the seventh, that can't be done."

David Yates, director of the fifth and sixth films, will return to adapt the 759 page Deathly Hallows, shooting both films at the same time. Screenwriter Steve Kloves will also script the films, meaning he has written seven of the eight franchise entries.

The next Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, opens in cinemas this November.

It's definately the best option I think, I'd hate them to have to cut out some of the hogwarts scenes or gringotts scene ETC due to lack of time. It's a shame there's like a 4 month in between though i can see myself anxiously awaiting the final installment since the second half will be amazing I think.

I agree with Dezzy, it'd be too good to squeeze into one film.

At least now they can end the film series being true to the book, and not missing anything out.

I'm glad there doing this. The last book is phenomenal and it'd be a shame if they missed anything out.

I was sooo annoyed when the Order of the Phoneix came out. The amount of important stuff they missed out of that film, like the cleaning of Number 12 Grimmauld Place, where a certain Locket was chucked away. What else was there? Erm......
The great big shouting fit Harry had at Dumbledore, when he heard the Prophecy in full, and they really should have put more into Snapes Memory, not just a quick flash.
Considering it was the longest book in the series, the film was a complete let down
Looking forward to the Half Blood Prince coming out, I just hope to god they get that one right!
I dont see why they just cant make a mega last film, instead of splitting it. The first film was nearly 3hrs long, why not make the last one?
But I suppose its for the best, that way they cant muck it up!

This is a good thing, there is so much in the book and the film would be seen as bad if they cut lots out.

I only just realised now that that shouting scene had been left out. That was ****ing brilliant in the book.

I wonder if the first one will end when the snatchers find Harry Ron and Hermione in the tent before being taken to Malfoy Manner, thats around halfway isnt it? That would be a kind of good cliffhanger x
