Yep. We live in a society that’s extra-quick to pathologise these days (especially with the over-rise of identification with neurodivergence) but I’m willing to cut Elsa a bit of slack, and I say that as someone who wasn’t initially her number-one fan. People are nuanced.

The idea of burfi. Cardamom and sweet just sounds so divine.

The elegiac, firm-but-sentimental beauty of Ọ̀ndó State and the Ọ́ka (Awka) parallels from blacksmithing interchange that persist hundreds of years later. It’s like watching the Igbo House in Liverpool from afar, circa 2003, with asún-jollof and some customary pepper-soup while the shell-pink oscillations unfold. Okra, egúsí and goat-meat are three things both groups can settle on. That’s the binding power and captain-smoothened legacy of Toxteth. And there’s no reason why it can’t last forever.
(If you know, you know.)

Not that I have to explain myself to someone like you (or anyone, for that matter), but like I said in the other thread, I’m someone who has heterogenous stakes culturally, both in upbringing/environment and ancestry, and I’ve hinted at that (even said outright at one point) a million times over the years. I’m not purely one thing or the other in the way that you just assume by-default. Say whatever-else you like, but don’t disrespect that. That is majorly below the belt. And I will not be culturally gaslighted like that.

Back to my ignore-list you go. You’re not worthy of my time, and I’m so glad I don’t live the way you do or think the way you do, because that’s such a misfittedly insular, blissfully unaware (of your prejudices) way to be and there’s too much seasoning and richness in the world to be like that in my book. I’m glad I actually understand social subtext and don’t expect to be accommodated specially while I spout misogynistic and occasionally borderline-racist BS that you think your particular shade of neurodivergence excludes you from ever having to take accountability for. I’m glad the most exotic meal I’ve had isn’t fish fingers or a ham-sandwich. I’m glad that, unlike you, I actually have self-awareness and not an immature victim-mentality. I’m glad I have more dignity than to put wilful semi-illiteracy on a pedestal as-if not being able to read is a flex. I’m glad I don’t have to copy people’s brush-offs and then come back 5 minutes later to do the opposite and wonder why no-one ever trusts a single word I say. I’m glad I don’t dig myself further and further into a hole of accountability-avoidance by being wilfully culturally insensitive and thinking copying the “bye” brush-off makes me look less bigoted than I started off as, as-if there’s even any defence for that. I’m just glad I’m not you. So glad. That short/TLDR enough for ya? Cool. Bye-bye. Kick off, have a meltdown, take a self-enforced break, lie through your teeth, call me a bully/narc., culturally gaslight in a way that hinges on racist. Fawn and infatuate over more AI-models of women young enough to be your granddaughter. Wobble on about how much you NEED this place (pathetic). Call someone obtuse for simply disagreeing with you. Do what you’ve got to do. But it just makes you look like a gigantic fool. The fact that you can’t even see that is hilarious. I’m surprised you’ve got enough self-awareness to remember your own name.

Just had a meatball-sub. with sweetcorn and cranberry-sauce from Subway. You have to taste it to get a sense of how sweet it is.

Crossing that boundary with someone like me verges on unforgivable. You chose to be ignorant (borderline-racist) and that’s disgraceful. But you’re not going to take accountability for that, either, are you? Because it’s not something you’re used to. That’s not ‘coming from a good place’. You should be ashamed of yourself. You have set out deliberately to devalue someone’s personal, culturally heterogenous insight and reduced a personal reflection about heritage, memory and community into a joke about vapes. You dismissed it as insignificant. And that’s not okay. Some people will still defend you but that’s not okay, either. You know exactly what you’re doing. Dig at your dyslexia? That didn’t even cross my mind. I was picking you up on what you yourself said very plainly about not liking to read long posts. You like to put it out there but can’t take it back without using your shade of neurodivergence as leverage and justification. You do it in discussions about women and you’re doing it here. Over and over and over again. If I lose friends over this at this point, all I’ll say is that I’ve already lost a friend in anyone who tries to defend your borderline-racism. I wouldn’t expect anyone who considers themselves a friend of mine, even if only in the anonymous and virtual realm, to sit back and say it’s okay for you to disrespect cultural nuance and legacy that’s coming from a very personal, coded place just-because you can’t handle getting back a fraction of what you dish out. That’s a line you crossed. With intention and with malice. Not because you have autism or dyslexia. And as an adult (or as anyone, really), you need to seriously reflect on that, and the assumptions you make about people you really don’t know at-all. But what you do know is right from wrong. You just chose wilful ignorance instead and, as-usual, used your shade of neurodivergence to deflect and avoid owning a single word you say. You want to give opinions and personal perspective without getting any back and then say it’s your autism that makes you so blissfully unaware of how offensive you can be.

I don’t even want to hear it at this point or whatever your pathetic justification is, so I’m not going to view that message (you’re on my ignore-list by default, even-though it disrupts the flow because you’re absolutely everywhere these days and hard to ignore completely). I’ve said my own and set the boundary, whether you want to respect it or not. I’m not opening that message.
You deliberately crossed a line, and there’s no excuse in the world for that. You have capacity. You wouldn’t be able to live independently if you didn’t. You know what you’re doing. You just prefer to say whatever you want about women and racially ambiguous/mixed (and-so-on) folk and get away with it because you have autism and anxiety and we’re all supposed to pity and feel sorry for you, whatever you do or say, whoever you objectify, devalue or gaslight. Well, I don’t. I don’t feel sorry for you. Wouldn’t want to be you, but that doesn’t mean I feel sorry for you. You have capacity and a choice. You just choose not to take accountability for anything, and it always circles back down to that with you. You’ll do literally anything but own your words and actions on here. Squaring yourself with that one word - accountability - is something that you don’t seem to have it in you to do, ever. Because it’s always easy to play victim/the bullied party and blame someone-else when challenged, call them “obtuse” (your catchphrase), deflect and refuse to acknowledge your own biases, dodgy assumptions and misplaced, toxic, inappropriate fixations. That’s the core issue with you, and it consistently remains unaddressed because you just don’t want to do that inner work and be responsible on the virtual world as much as the real world, because you rely on people lowering the bar and making excuses for you. I think we understand each-other. I’m checking out. I’m wasting my time with you and most people on this forum know it. That’s why I never used to get too involved with you, but, again, your presence here, there and everywhere and the things you say are hard to not bump into. You’re omnipresent in the worst way possible. Don’t think you have to defend yourself. If you want to save integrity, now is the time to stop writing and pause. Reflect. Account (I know you’re allergic, but as a parent, spouse and grandparent you’re old enough and hopefully wise enough to do that). You’re not a child.

Again with the wall of text. .. I haven’t read through it all but did spot the word ‘deliberately’ .. So as regards deliberately crossing the line .. I have no idea which line I have crossed so by definition I cannot have crossed it deliberately - do you see my point ? |
