The Birdcage has just been added to Netflix so watched that this evening.

Hilarious movie. Robin Williams and Nathan Lane are perfect together and Gene Hackman plays his role to a T. Just a lovely, daft, funny movie.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it - it’s an adaptation of the play “Les Cage aux Folles”. Robin Williams owns and runs and gay drag club with his boyfriend Nathan Lane (who is the star of the show) but has a 20yo son from a brief fling. The son gets engaged to the daughter of a conservative Senator (Hackman). Chaos ensues at a meeting of the in-laws. It’s brilliant.

..Troll 2…of course…a story of Trolls in a movie form…5/10…

…The Holdovers…I liked it a lot, I’m very much a ‘people movie’ person and this was a people movie…it just kept a slow pace throughout, no thrilling rides, no edge of the seat stuff, no jumps or scares etc…just people and a great cast…8/10…

Resident Evil: Vendetta - It was a fun Film with a villain with a bit more depth than your normal Resident Evil villain.

I could've done without the pissing contest between Leon and Chris though.

…I watched A Merry Little Ex-MAs….…which was pretty awful in storyline but Alicia Silverstone and Melissa Joan Hart made it fabulous in its casting……I won’t rate it, it was a corny Christmas movie so obviously it was fabulous even though it wasn’t….

I put on Candyman (2021) thinking I’d not watched it (and loved the original). About 30 minutes in I remembered I had started it and it was awful. Had the same opinion this time, although lasted 40 minutes before I switched it off.

I dislike Jordan Peel movies on principle. The original is great though.

It was just so flat. The original was excellent.

…Jay Kelly……it definitely read like a me type of movie and such a terrific cast also with Adam Sandler…(…who was excellent…)…and Emily Mortimer and Riley Keough and Greta Gerwig and Billy Crudup and Laura Dern and Jim Broadbent and just an endless list of glorious talents…but somehow, even with all of those it just felt quite a bit like a George Clooney ego project and ‘walking through his life’ or being led through his life/career etc…?…it all felt quite empty and hollow, which is maybe the point but that’s how it left me feeling also, nothing really giving that much thought…4/10 just because it wasn’t for me, but a great cast…

Ah that’s disappointing. Been looking forward to this. I’ll give it a go and see.

Finally caught One Battle After Another and it genuinely might be one of the best films I’ve ever seen, definitely the best in recent memory anyway.

I really loved it. Was funny, tense, loads of action, thrilling. The big car chase scene was epic.

Paul Thomas Anderson finally went “big budget” and made a blockbuster action movie and it really paid off - whilst still keeping the trademark quirkiness and stunning cinematography of his previous work.

…yeah, let me know what you think…it definitely has that old fashioned type Hollywood vibe that I know that you love and visually…?..there are some very gorgeous bits but for me in substance and depth, it’s just a hollow…something that promised/with everything in its right place but just didn’t get there…

such a lovely film, and honestly live action is on par as amazing as the original animated film was

IT (1990)

It's true to say that the modern adaptation is probably superior overall, but Tim Curry is unquestionably a better Pennywise than Skarsgard imo, who has benefit of the CGI doing a lot of the heavy lifting to get him by.

Empire records one of those movies I bought on dvd just because of the cover. I had no idea if it would be good or not but when I watched it, I loved it. I watched it again today and I still love it . Still have the dvd

…Relay……it was just one of those random finds/movies and actually was very good, really zipped along very well…about a ‘fixer’ who helps whistleblowers and helps to protect them… Riz Ahmed and Lily James/both very good as their characters…7.5/10…

…also watched Oh. What. Fun Christmas movie with Michelle Pfeiffer…it was so full of cliches and corniness so a perfect Christmas movie…6/10…

…oh I also watched Death Wish 2018…which, you know when you begin watching a movie and get the feeling that it’s familiar and you may have seen it before but can’t actually recall any details…I’m still not sure if this was a 1st or 2nd watch but it was good to see a Bruce Willis movie..6/10…
