Our weather is trying to winter, but failing. We had about a week or so of low to high 80s (26-31c) which is warm even for here. The day before fronts would coming through we had two tornados touch down just north of us. An area of heavy rain is expected to move over south Wales between late
Sunday and late Monday. Whilst rainfall amounts will vary, some heavy and
persistent rainfall is likely to fall, especially over high ground, for example
Bannau Brycheiniog. Rain should clear to the east Monday night.


20-40 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely across the wider region, but 60-
80 mm is likely to accumulate over some windward-facing high ground in
south Wales and perhaps nearer 100-120 mm in a few places.

Strong south to southwesterly winds will accompany the heavy rain,
particularly in coastal areas.

How much rain(hourly rainrates?) typically causes flooding? We live on a fast draining watershed so a lot of rain can be accommodated so I can't think of how to compare...

North of us... we got some really good lightning and thunder locally for a bit. Pup is hiding under covers with me since I am still fighting a URI.

It's been so humid, though. Normal for our mornings, especially when we have a very warm Christmas. This feels more Easter though with the warm temps and high humidity/fog. I'm still running air conditioning when it gets hot out, but in several days I'll be running the heater again...

Sunday and beyond

Sunday should be fairly warm as well, with highs pushing into the upper 70s, to possibly 80 degrees. A strong front is coming, but it’s now unlikely to reach our region before Sunday evening or the overnight hours. After this we’ll have a few cold days next week, with highs likely in the 50s, and lows in the 30s and 40s. I don’t think the majority of the metro area will see a freeze on Tuesday morning, but it’s a possibility we’ll be watching for as the mercury bottoms out. Temperatures should rebound a little by New Year’s Eve into the 60s, but at this point I suspect temperatures that night, heading into New Year’s Day will be chilly and in the 40s. So it will be fairly cold if you’re planning to be outside for revelries. The end of next week looks a little warmer.

Much of the South is going to have a very very warm Christmas. We didn't get a hurricane, so I guess everything works out in balance...
