Apparently his son had a drug problem and they tried to help him.

Awful news. What a dreadful thing to happen. Stand By Me and The Princess Bride are two of my favourite films. RIP to them both.

[Sources confirmed the victims were Rob and Michele Reiner
and that they had suffered stab wounds - and a family
member is now being questioned by police.

The pair were found dead with their throats
slit after having an argument inside their home,
according to TMZ.

Detectives are treating the incident as a
double homicide and investigators are quizzing
an unnamed family member.
No arrests have been made.

The couple's daughter Romy,
who lives across the street,
is said to have made the grim discovery when she
visited their sprawling six-bedroom estate
yesterday afternoon.

The Reiners also had a son, Nick, 32, a screenwriter
who has been known to have struggled with
drug addiction and bouts of homelessness.]

Horrible news. I gather a film was made a decade or so ago, written by the (alleged) perpetrator as a semi-autobiographical thing about an addict with rich parents.

Great 80s-90s filmography... what a loss to the industry.
