Totally agree. It makes no sense that they still don’t have bodycams when even tiny departments use them. And the lack of badge numbers or any supervisor the public can actually reach just adds to the problem. Their legal authority is still being argued over, yet they’re carrying out operations that keep ending in deaths. Then you’ve got the administration brushing it off like the people harmed somehow deserved it. It’s a really disturbing moment in the US.

You’re right — accountability is exactly what they’re trying to avoid, and that’s why nothing changes. They know bodycams, badge numbers, and clear oversight would force them to answer for their actions, so they drag their feet and pretend it’s all unnecessary.

And honestly, as awful as it is, this will probably fade from the headlines like everything else. Give it a week and the conversation will shift to the next crisis, the next outrage, the next distraction. Meanwhile, the underlying problems stay exactly the same.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told the Daily Mail that agents were in the area attempting to apprehend ‘an illegal alien wanted for violent assault’ when they were approached by Pretti.

Federal authorities identified the man they were initially seeking as Jose Huerta‑Chuma, an Ecuadorian national.

Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino said Huerta‑Chuma has a criminal history that includes domestic assault, disorderly conduct and driving without a license, though federal court records did not list any cases under his name.

According to DHS, Pretti was armed and carrying two magazines at the time he was detained. The agency later released a photograph of a nine‑millimeter semi‑automatic handgun it said was recovered during the clash.

Interesting wording.

Officials claimed officers attempted to disarm Pretti but that he ‘violently resisted’ before a Border Patrol agent fired the fatal shot.

You know what would've helped back up some of these claims? Bodycams.

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said the protests against ICE and Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis have gotten so chaotic that protesters are now apparently biting the fingers off of federal officers.

McLaughlin shared a couple of unsettling pictures on X on Saturday afternoon, including one where a Homeland Security agent’s right ring finger is bloody and mutilated.

The spokeswoman said the agent’s finger was “bit off” by one of two “rioters” she took a picture of, although she did not mention which of the men allegedly attacked the agent.

“He will lose his finger,” McLaughlin said.

She included another image showing the agent’s severed finger inside a plastic cup at a hospital.

Her post came just a few hours after 37-year-old protester Alex Pretti — identified by Minnesota Star Tribune — was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent on Saturday morning in Minneapolis. That shooting sparked more protests against immigration agents, adding to several protests that have already taken place this month after the shooting death of Renee Good by ICE.

Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino told reporters that Pretti “approached” agents with a 9 mm handgun while they were attempting to apprehend a violent illegal immigrant from Ecuador.

“The agents attempted to disarm the individual, but he violently resisted. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers a Border Patrol agent fired defensive shots,” Bovino said.

He added a moment later, “The suspect also had two loaded magazines and no accessible ID. This looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”

During a different press conference, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) urged President Donald Trump to abort his crackdown on illegal immigration in Minnesota following the shooting.

Fox News reporter Steve Harrigan reported from the streets of Minneapolis soon after and said the tear gas that immigration agents were using was “completely ineffective” at getting protesters to comply. He said it was only leading to “more turmoil.”

Correct. POTUS would've spoke to the entire public directly, not just had his underlings run around trying to politicize it. He would've called for reason, but then triggered Insurrection Act out of abundance of caution if it still kept out of control, but the State would've had some time to get itself in order and troops are called if needed. States would cooperate to restore order. Not everyone waiting until the right topics or videos are trending on X/social for maximum winning optics. This is a painful game of chicken except regular people are caught in the middle and everyone else is halfassing it.

He had a gun and they were trying to get it off of him. You can hear it in video "Where's the gun!?" over and over. The problem is, it looks like someone removed it a second or so before and that is in the video but the other person behind who pulled his weapon defensively didn't know and when the man reached for his waistband, that was it. It may be that they announced they had retrieved the gun and the guy misheard. Nobody knows.

For the number of shots, all LEO (and citizens too) are trained to be sure they've neutralized a threat and not to overthink it. I doubt he was counting the bullets. With semi-auto, which most carry pistols are in the US, it's a very light touch of the trigger in single action so it would take almost no effort to put that many bullets into a sheet of paper at a distance, much less a person in front. This is typical with self-defense training, so I don't think that's abnormal.

I don't think it this is a clear cut and I don't think it's helpful to speculate (too much anyway) I'll just say from what I saw, it started because one of the officers pushed a woman back until she fell and that was what caused the other dude to run at the officer, while armed, and attack him with his body (not a gun). I read he was fully permitted to carry, entirely possible, but in states that require training (I'm not sure on MN) we're told to announce we are armed for EVERY interaction with law enforcement. That's the first thing you say. Whatever happened after that, it's likely going to be justified anyway just because of the general circumstances and the fact the guy was armed and heavily resisting.

I don't know what day they were meant to do it, but seems pointless. Even if they did it yesterday or before, some people have to be out buying supplies for the storm moving through so any lost shopping will just be delayed. Especially getting things ready like generators. If it's today or tomorrow, people are not going to be going out in that weather anyway. It's supposed to be dangerously cold.

I think they're equating investigations to showing weakness, which shows not only how impulsive they are, but the lack of leadership. They're too worried about social media trends and how narratives are playing in favor to the other side. And to be fair, this is a tendency that exists on both ends. The difference here it's actual people caught in the middle and most are residents of MN.

i would say the people know the administration is lying to them and the temperature is going to keep on rising. Of course, thats exactly what the administration wants.

The dems need to grow a backbone on this and stop ICE funding by whatever means in the senate
