More than 200 million people are in the path of a potentially historic winter storm that's expected to extend over 2,000 miles and deliver crippling snow and ice across more than 35 states, all told beginning Friday.

A wide swath of winter weather will slam the country through the weekend, moving from the Southwest through Texas and Oklahoma, across the South and Tennessee Valley, before eventually reaching the Mid-Atlantic coast.

Behind the storm itself, Arctic temperatures could freeze snow and ice, potentially creating long-duration power outages and paralyzing travel for days.

The fact we pushed to winterize our power grid in Texas doesn't seem like such overkill anymore.

Local preparations for the ice storm that is moving in overnight. Power company have staged trucks all over the city. These are linemen from out of area that come in to help.



I'm not paying that much attention to predictions. The weather models are not tracking well with what is actually happening and so they've had to keep readjusting the forecast. We're running laundry in preparation to drain out pipes because our pipes are in our attics, so they won't make it through low 20s (F) (They're predicting -6 for us).

After all the hype, the ice never came to us. We had thunderstorms and heavy rain last night and ice rain was on the radar but I guess it never made it to the ground. It never got below freezing and they are saying the storms helped warm up the air.
