While that's certainly true about public perception, the FBI has regularly dropped the ball and is well known to skip basic investigatory work. It's also normal for them to pick up cases from local agencies. The US govt has politicized so much of its official structure to help prop its own image that its lost the effective bits seeing as that's led to leadership that focus more on expedient outcomes over professional work.

FBI has always been involved in politics to some degree, but it never used to be this incompetent.

Man SHOOTS himself as three detained following disappearance of Nancy Guthrie…


FBI agents and Swat teams swarmed a property just two miles from Nancy Guthrie's residence as part of an investigation into the 84-year-old's disappearance.

Three individuals were taken into custody during the operation, with one person reportedly shooting himself, according to local news reports.

The tactical teams descended on the Tucson, Arizona home at approximately 9pm local time on Friday, acting on a tip received by investigators.

Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed the FBI's involvement in the joint investigation but declined to release further details at the bureau's request.

Authorities investigating Nancy Guthrie disappearance seal off road

Authorities investigating the disappearance of US TV host Savannah Guthrie's mother sealed off a road near her home late on Friday night.

A parade of cars from the FBI and the sheriff's office, including forensics vehicles, were seen passing through a roadblock set up about two miles from Nancy Guthrie's Arizona house.

Blood from the 84-year-old was previously found on the Tucson-area property's front porch. She was reported missing on 1 February .

Investigators have found several gloves, the nearest of which was discovered some two miles from Ms Guthrie's home, and submitted them for lab analysis, the sheriff's office said.

The department said it had collected DNA from Ms Guthrie's property, which does not belong to the missing OAP, nor those in close contact with her.

Supposed ransom notes have been sent to news outlets, but two deadlines for paying have passed.

Police have said that she has difficulty walking, has a pacemaker, and requires daily medication for a heart condition.

Sorting through such tips is a tremendous amount of work, said Roberto Villasenor, a former Tucson police chief.

"In a situation like this, you really cannot do what's been done without tips and public input," he said. "They have processed the scene. But once that's done and exhausted, it's hard to move forward without additional information coming in."

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more public CCTV or dashcam footage released. These days many homes and cars have cameras — doorbell cams, shop cameras, dashcams, and traffic cameras — so you’d expect more to show up.

Is the footage being kept back because the investigation is ongoing? Have police checked nearby cameras and dashcams? Are there legal reasons they can’t share what they have? Has the public been asked to check and send in any recordings?

If anyone has seen confirmed footage or reliable updates, please share the source. I’m not looking to speculate — I just want to understand why there seems to be so little visual evidence available.

…it’s weird, isn’t it…?…it really does feel like a most bizarre case and it’s become more complex because of media coverage, which is constantly suggesting ‘updates and progress’ which in reality, seem to be more routine than updates and progress…which doesn’t seem helpful at all to the family or to finding Nancy…for me, the whole disappearance/circumstance and everything since then has just felt ‘odd’ and off…I guess that everyone does things their own way but the recent release of personal family video moments, I don’t see how that would be helpful …I didn’t actually watch any of the vids as it just feels too intrusive…anyway, in terms of your questioning and camera surveillance in the area etc…?…this article highlights a little of what the search seems to be entailing atm…the article is quite extensive so I’ll post the link but I will highlight a few bits also…as with you, I’m trying not to speculate/just very focused on accurate updates…as I think that in today’s world, social media and the like adds enough negative speculation, which will surely only block and prevent that case progression from happening…sadly, trial by the public and by social media etc is the world we live in…
