He has been arrested for mis conduct in public office, surely we should be arresting at least half of current and ex politicians

If that's the case, I don't know UK law obviously, but if he does not want this to spiral, this would be the time to get any concessions from him or cooperation. Seeing as he now will take potential charges much more seriously...
