Hostel Part II.

The first one was no masterpiece, but it at least had a gritty low budget feel that lended a more visceral feeling to the violence on display. Hostel II felt overly polished and neatly wrapped up to the point where it felt robbed of any punch or bite the original had.

The Batman 2022

I liked it, reminded me of Sin City in terms of the overall mood

…The Running Man …/2025 version…it was enjoyable/entertaining enough as it’s very much a ‘rooting for’ vein of story…Glen Powell is an entertaining enough runner and brings lots of adrenaline …I didn’t enjoy the movie as much as the Arnold version though and obviously it was just so much more original then and adrenaline/action packed movies were something we saw less of in a time before streaming sites etc…but in its own right, not too shabby a watch…6/10….

…I watched a movie called Bandit……which was based on a true story apparently …it was ok so far as heist movie go and true stories/or based on true stories are always interesting…5/10…

…One Battle After Another…Leonardo DiCaprio at his very best…it was well paced and funny and action packed …I mean, Sean Penn’s character was entirely awful but he was entirely brilliant in that character…
Spoiler:

…I even felt affection towards his tic by the end and smiled when he survived the crash…he was like the terminator/indestructible….
…I didn’t know what to expect with this but whatever it was, it delivered and delivered …one delivery after another…?… for a few hours…superb cast, every single one of them and ultimately a movie about a great father/daughter bond…9/10…

Frankenstein (2025)

Didn't feel lovingly stitched together on a mad scientist's laboratory table so much as it felt like it was mechanically assembled on a factory conveyor belt. Still, a sleek and beautiful 'product' that managed to capture the spirit of the book and also entertain me. Overall a good movie, but perhaps a little misguided in its execution.

War Machine starring Alan Richson. US elite forces face off alien invaders. A decent romp and Alan Richson has been good in everything I've ever seen him in. plus he's very easy on the eye. 8/10

One Battle After Another, Benicio Del Toro, Leonardi di Caprio. Chase Infiniti was very good, we'll be seeing a lot more of her in the future, I think. Enjoyed it 8/10

…The Fall Guy……it was fun, I stupidly hadn't realised that it was based on the TV series back in the 80s, was it…?…with Lee Majors and Heather Thomas and
Spoiler:

…it was a nice touch and tribute to have them both appear in a scene at the end of the movie…
…I mean as you can imagine, it was all about a movie stunt/fall guy, that was a bit of a give away with the title…Aaron Taylor Johnson who played the Hollywood actor who Ryan Gosling was stunting for sounded exactly like Matthew McConaughey, not sure if that’s who he was meant to be based on but I wouldn’t say that Matthew was generally thought of as an ‘a toon movie person’….anyway, Emily Blunt is lovely always and Ryan Gosling is such a likeable actor, it all zipped along beautifully with some great cameos also…the storyline wasn’t in any way surprising or filled with twists and turns but it didn’t need to be…oh and Hannah Waddingham was a treat as well…7.5/10….

…The Weekend Away….…not too shabby at all…thriller/murder mystery and also a lovely backdrop/setting of Croatia…because it was a fairly unknown cast of actors, it was very much more reliant on storyline and that kept a pretty gripping pace throughout with me screaming at the screen a few times, why do these characters never learn how to keep themselves out of danger…7/10, I reckon…

…Project Power……one of those hidden gem movies that was an enjoyable watch…very slick and fast paced and the lead characters all gelled together well…a pill that can give someone super powers for 5 minutes flooding the street market…/…but there’s no control or choice over what that super power might be, the person doesn’t get to choose…and in demand by criminals to give them no fear of policing authorities, what could go wrong…?….7/10….

Abigail. A group kidnaps the young daughter of a billionaire looking for a ransom. But it doesn't turn out as they expected. Decent horror... 7/10

…The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry….…just a simple, ordinary story of simple ordinary lives and a book adaption with a sweet cast that just kind of slows down the pace…6/10…

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Hadn't seen it for years. It stands up, I think. My American OH was glad of the subtitles at various points, though. A Guy Ritche classic...9/10
