Can you imagine what would happen to s couple of Brits breaking into an Iranian war base - during war time ??

They would be hung , drawn and quartered live on Iranian TV

These two will be released on a £50 bail tomorrow

What gets me is that Trump keeps calling the people who could help him cowards and that he doesn't need their help. He almost says the opposite from one sentence to the next.

The guy has been erratic before, obviously, but it seems to be getting worse

MoD doesn't confirm or deny US media reports of Diego Garcia attack

The UK Ministry of Defence has neither confirmed nor denied that Iran has launched missiles towards the joint US - UK military base at Diego Garcia.

In a statement released a few minutes ago, an MoD spokesperson says: "Iran’s reckless attacks, lashing out across the region and holding hostage the Strait of Hormuz, are a threat to British interests and British allies.

“RAF jets and other UK military assets are continuing to defend our people and personnel in the region.

“This government has given permission to the US to use British bases for specific and limited defensive operations.”

Earlier, when asked about reports of the strikes in US media, the Pentagon said it had “nothing to provide”.

This is true. From my point of view, the whole pattern is completely predictable at this stage. Trump keeps attacking the very people who could help him, calling them cowards one minute and then insisting he doesn’t need anyone the next. It’s the same contradictory swing he’s shown before, but it feels even more exaggerated now.

And honestly, even if NATO did contribute more, there’s no reason to think he’d appreciate it. In a few months he probably wouldn’t acknowledge it, or he’d downplay it the way he’s dismissed other allies’ contributions in the past — including the way he talked about UK involvement in the Second Gulf War. That’s why, from my perspective, NATO are absolutely right not to get dragged into this. He can complain all he wants; I’m proud we’re not getting involved.

NATO with an american partner is finished. We couldn't rely on them, so we may as well call it the european defence force and be done with it. I hope that we are just trying to keep trump happy for now while we gear up ourselves, but that would demand some joined up thinking

I agree — from my perspective, we really need to go it alone. The entire situation feels like a recurring pattern, and Trump's handling of it reinforces that feeling. The idea of him demolishing the East Wing to build a ballroom serves as a perfect metaphor for his broader approach: tearing down something established to replace it with whatever suits him at the moment.

My concern, at least from where I sit, is that the impact won't be short-term. It could take years — perhaps decades — for the U.S. and everyone else affected to untangle the consequences of these decisions. That's why I understand the argument for maintaining our distance. From this viewpoint, staying out of it isn't just sensible; it's something to take pride in.

I am not following all this particularly closely but yesterday I heard reports of Trump supposedly slagging off the UK again but about an hour later we had apparently agreed to allow the US forces to attack or use our bases ?!?

Didn’t make any sense at the time

President Trump has now stated he will
attack Iran's Power Plants
If they do not open the Strait of Hormuz.

i'm not saying what's right or wrong, because both sides have done things not in the interests of ordinary civilians. However, anyone with a brain can see that all this is, is escalation after escalation and that never ends well
