Default What happened to Big Brothers’ Welsh wonders?

http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/

So what did these Welsh wonders do after the door of the Big Brother house slammed behind them?

Glyn Wise

At 18, Welsh- speaker Glyn was the youngest housemate to enter on launch night of Big Brother 7 in 2006.

The lifeguard from Gwynedd went on to come second.

Glyn, who admitted “Big Brother changes you”, has appeared in Welsh and English-language TV and radio shows including Ready, Steady Cook.

The former head boy from Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy in Llanrwst got his A-level results in the final week of filming. He got an A for art and design but only E grades in Welsh and English because he missed the exams to be on Big Brother.

He has said people emerge from the house as “completely different people” but that the show changed his life for the better.

Glyn has a slot on Radio Cymru’s C2 music programme and has done photo shoots for magazines, including Heat.

“Big Brother gave me something I wouldn’t have had otherwise,” he said. “For that I’m very grateful. It’s been a whirlwind experience, the best of my life.”

Imogen Thomas

Former Miss Wales Imogen Thomas, 25, found it hard sticking to the rules when she entered the Big Brother house in 2007.

She and Glyn Wise were told off for speaking in Welsh and she eventually came seventh. Since leaving she has reputedly had a relationship with former Big Mouth host Russell Brand and a former boyfriend leaked a sex tape on the net. She has launched a career in property and business, She’s opening a nail salon, Imogen’s Nails, in Cardiff, in June and owns a number of houses in her hometown of Llanelli. She says she is settled and happy with her partner, Swansea City rugby player Matty Collins, and wants to ensure she has a way to make money “once the modelling days are over”.

S4C are filming a fly-on-the-wall documentary about the launch of her business and she has been busy promoting Big Brother Nine.

“I will watch the new series of Big Brother. Last year I thought it had had its day, but now I’m excited about the new series,” she said.

“Big Brother will always be such a large part of my life. It’s been two years but feels as if it was yesterday. Every time it comes on I miss it so much. It was such a good summer.”

Helen Adams

The former hairdresser from Cwmbran was runner up in the second series and became notorious for her “Helenisms” including the immortal line, “I like blinking, I do”.

The bubbly blonde, who gave up her job at ClassyCutz in Newport to enter the house in 2001, went on to become one of the most loveable characters in the series.

Helen, who is 30 this year, promised to “bring mayhem to the house and teach them all to dance”.

Ratings soared as romance blossomed with fellow housemate Paul Clarke. Helen lasted the full nine weeks of the series, being evicted on the final night minutes before the winner Brian Dowling.

She went on to become a beauty expert on satellite TV, made a string of celebrity appearances, released an aerobics video and supported a government literacy campaign.

She now shuns the limelight , but hit headlines again in 2006 after she split with Paul after five years.

Shanessa Reilly

The former careworker and table dancer from Cardiff entered the house last summer wearing a revealing pink Julien MacDonald number.

Shanessa, a 27-year-old single mum, worked at a club in Cardiff. She ended up being the seventh person evicted from Big Brother, when she and David Parnaby were voted off in a double eviction.

Shanessa saw Brian Belo beat twins Sam and Amanda Marchant to the eighth BB crown and the £100,000 winner’s cheque last summer after bringing forward a court appearance to be there.

Later she pleaded guilty to one charge of driving a car in Jackson Road, Ely, Cardiff, without the correct licence. She has stayed away from the limelight since and a Big Brother spokeswoman said this week they were no longer in contact with her.

Lisa Jeynes

Former shop manager Lisa Jeynes entered 2003’s Big Brother late on in the series and left after just two weeks.

Her post-Big Brother career was derailed after a photo-shoot accident left her needing surgery to repair damage to her jaw. But now she’s back on track. With the surgery almost over and a libel case against a gossip magazine behind her, she’s ready to face the world again. Splitting her time between hometown Penarth and London, she has a boyfriend “but doesn’t want to talk about that”.

Lisa is probably best-remembered for her monologues – and demonstration of double jointed-ness.

She says: “I’m still working on my book which will come out sometime this year, and I’ll be doing Big Brother’s Little Brother for the first time. I’ll also be looking to get my chat show back on track.

“The accident was a big blow, but you know me, it takes more than falling off a ladder to keep me down.

“But now I really do have a Hollywood smile. My replacement teeth were made in Los Angeles!”

Laura Williams

Few people in the public eye would be happy to admit their profile is shrinking, but for the girl known as Wangers it’s something she’s proud of.

Since leaving the 2007 series of Big Brother, the former nanny has slimmed down, with the aid of a Tonypandy fitness instructor and breast reduction surgery.

She may have changed her body, with the surgery bringing her down from a 32J to a C cup, but she says she’s still the same underneath. The 24-year-old from Tylorstown plans to stay in Wales as long as she can, and is working on a secret project she “can’t talk about”.

During her time in the house, Laura clocked up 400 hours in bed, blaming a bad back caused by the weight of her breasts.

She says: “I’m working on something at the moment. It’s coming up in the next couple of weeks. That’s all I’m going to say.”
