Default Big Brother has earned it\'s bad reputation?

Whether you're a Big Brother fan or not, you'd have to admit the programme has a very bad reputation these days. Just reading that Ofcom topic about all the complaints so far, there's not many programmes which attract such negative response from the common person, not consistently.

Big Brother chooses it's contestants and knows what it wants for the show, so surely they only have themselves to blame right? They must want a bad reputation because they keep making the same mistakes?

I dont think its a matter of having a bad reputation or not. The thing is, that the show is controversial, and alot of the Brits are so up tight that they're not open minded when it comes to controversy. That leads to stupid complaints and bad word of mouth. Anything controversial will have a divide in opinion.

Its better to be controversial than boring. I think it's lasted 9 years due to the controversy. If it were boring then it wouldnt have lasted this long.

Of course its earned a bad reputation but who said thats a bad thing?

A rubbish integrity suits a trashy show like BB just fine. Thats what we like!

Because of the nature of the show some people will just complain anyway.

I think it's obvious they want a bad reputation. BB6 contained a number of HM's with diagnosed psycological problems. I'm sure the producers knew this but decided to put them in the house anyway. It speaks for it self. The producers are covet the bad press they get.

I really don't know why some people watch the show now. Those complaining to ofcom should surely be aware by now the type of thing that happens on the show.If they cannot handle watching a few arguments, then the show really isn't for them.

I think people know who watch it that there could be some nudity and stuff, so they just shouldent watch it if they are easily offended.

On the other hand, stuff in the past, like a racism and bullying, could not have been pre-empted, or forseen, and thats a slur on the people involved rather than the show.

Are you accounting for all the basic, scummy behaviour too? Because acting like scum is really pushing the boundaries of actually being controversial at all, rather than just plain wrong.

I think both, the show has done many stupid things and mad estupid choices that is just asking for trouble, therefore gains its bad reputation. However, lies and untrue comments about the show will spread through newpapers, word of mouth and then everyone thinks badly of the show and then people who have never seen it think badly of it!

Big Brother just gives good insight into how people act in everyday life. There are bullies and wannabee's. It just shows what happens in real life yet some people want to believe it doesnt happen and refuse to accept it.

Who are you referring to when you say common?

And all the weirdness comes from emos and goths (Freaks!!!)
(and before you call me a chav, i am not, i don't slot myself into these pathetic categories!!!)

I don't think it is a matter of 'earning its bad reputation', it is only since Celebrity Big Brother 2007 that it has attracted real negative press because of Jade Goody/Shilpa Shetty. I think since that happened, it made viewers much more wary, even though very little negative has happened since, aside from arguments.

As much as I like BB, I've got to admit that it is pure trash. The show these days is based on bullying and manipulating. The producers are to blame for this and I think if they dont do something quick about Alex then I can easily see another race row happening, but from the other side of the coin this time.
