Default Can Britney Spears actually sing?

This has always been debated ever since the start of her career. Britney has always been pulled up on her lip syncing, which has always been supported with the reason that her performances have been so active, she physically cannot sing & perform at the same time. Yet, when she is sat down and sings live to songs like "Everytime" and "I'm not a Girl" she sings with no problems, yet the question is still frequently asked- Can Britney Spears actually sing.

What do you think?

I think she can to a degree, but put her against Leona/Christina/Maria then they're in a different league all together

I think she can.
But I don't think she's anything special.
She's just been lucky to have good songs, released at a good time for music and a big fanbase that has built over time.

I think if she had released Hit Me Baby now, at the same age she was, it may not have launched such a big career.

She's not as talented as some other musicians out there, but she has a unique voice. It could well be edited whilst in the studio, but the end product (i.e. her songs) always turn out to be extremely popular... and they rake in the money, which is the desired effect.

I think she was exactly the right kind of person who appeared at the right time back in the 90s when she was at the peak of her popularity. She was fresh, different, had a great image, and the songs she sang were catchy - this catapulted her to stardom.

I have to say that I agree. If you ever watched her TV series Chaotic with Kevin, she constantly sing to herself like when she is getting ready for one of her shows and you can tell that she has one of the most beautiful voices EVER. But, people compare her voice to when she was in the Mickey Mouse Club and when she used to compete in talent shows when she was younger, but people simply do not realise that your vouce changes the more you grow.

I wouldn't say she's a great singer, but I wouldn't dare say she's rubbish either...I'd be mauled to pieces

She's your average person when it comes to singing - but she's been marketed and edited brilliantly. I don't know if she writes her own songs - but they've done well for a reason; they're catchy. Simple, but catchy.

She's not an amazing singer but she is good. I really like her and her album Blackout is fantastic.

Nothing special. She is not a great singer. She got where she based on "star quality".

Blackout is one of her best albums.
She recorded it when she was pregnant which I thought was kinda cute.

I think she is a very average singer, no great talent. She isn't a bad singer though.

I'd say Blackout is her worst so far... I can't distinguish between a lot of the songs, and there isn't really a big anthem which stuck out like Toxic / Hit Me Baby One More Time. Well, I suppose Gimme More was big. But the others sound samey.

Worst? Really? I love it, it has such a wide variety of dance, R'n'B and pop songs.

I agree. Though I like Blackout, a lot of the songs do sort of mesh together. Gimme More doesn't have that classic, catchy forever featured on mix tape, type that Baby One More Time, I'm a Slave 4 U, Oop! I Did it again, Toxic had.

With the aid of modern technology I'm sure she can sing, without it I think she would be nothing special. A bit like most of the spice grannies.

To be fair, Blackout's the album where her voice was REALLY edited so we're not sure just how far up the scale she hit those notes.

I agree with Shaun though, Blackout is the worst of her albums.
In The Zone was probably her best.

I hated Blackout. It was just TOO different. It wasn't Britney, it was a machine.

But yeah I think seh can, I love her album "Britney"

I still stick by my opinion- Blackout is one of her best.

It was different from what Britney had done before, and the album did well to say it had no promotion, one performance which was heavily criticsed and three videos, one of which was animated.

The whole point in the album was to go into a different direction. It was a dance/electro/tech-pop album.

I think pretty much every critic agreed it was her best. There wasn't one weak song on the album. But it was much different to her last few albums. It gave her two smash hit singles as well. If there was actual promotion, it could have been huge.
