Default Karma:I was thinking . . .

Wouldn't karma be so much better if you could only edit someone's positively. That way if someone likes your post and gives you karma it isn't immediatly minused by someone who just doesn't like you! Or if you don't have any, then it just means that your posts aren't always noticed, rather than calling you a bad poster. Just and idea. I like the idea of karma, but some please abuse it and I think this could stop that. It would also encourage loads more people to use it.

What do you think?

The word 'karma' basically means a balance between good and bad. Without the bad, the whole point of it is gone, and there's no point in having karma at all.
To reward posters for good posts, there also needs to be something else to put people off bad posts.

Well you could always change the name. And I really don't think that having a karma minus effects the way people post. If anything it angers them and even makes them post more offensively or stupidly just to spite people.

I honestly don't like the idea of karma at all. I feel people might feel unappreciated if they don't get positive karma, and so even having just + karma can cause troubles.

But think of all the people that don't even have karma turned on! They don't feel under appreciated obviously. Well it's just an idea.

Just get rid of it! Has the karma thing been on here since the early days?

Maybe the admins could restrict it so every user's karma can't go below zero?

It's a pointless system IMO - I've had it off for ages.

It's relatively recent (like, within the last year).

I agree.

But then I have mine turned off, so I might not understand the fascination over it like some members have?

I agree completely. The point of karma should be to encourage people to be more active in the forums, but as it is it actually discourages it.

Maybe when you edit a user's karma you have to write a short comment e.g. Good post or a long message...

Surely, then, karma should be taken off alltogether? If it's only positive, then those that DON'T get positive will be discouraged from being active too.

Its a good Idea in principle Gazbo, but I understand the other views also and as Karma is an option I thinks its best left alone rather than make a change other than the idea of nobody ever getting into a minus that seems so harsh.

If anyone ever minuses my Karme I always send them a u2u message threatening to bite thier bum, if it happens again, Ive found that works really well

I do very much like this idea, I mentioned it the other evening. It would be nice to call it something like 'Luvin' hehe.

I see the flaw to this plan, someone with a high lovin score may be mistaken for just being horny, whilst someone in the minus may be dreading the fact they're considered almost at the desperate stage

Haha, I can see it now, sex addicted forum. The 'Seduction Section' and the 'Cyber Luffin' section with some saucy ad's above.

I never implied that it was very important but some people enjoy it but it;s spoiled when it gets petty.

I highly doubt that people would feel unappreciated if the'yre karma score was lower than others. Especially seen as most don't even have it turned on and they don't feel under appreciated presumbaly.

Karma is abused in the positive way also, as so many people just plus their friends hence why some people who post some absolute BS has a high karma.

Plus, when somebody posts something I dislike, I enjoy throwing a bit of negative karma their way!

And like Lauren said, it defeats the object, but it's optional, so everybody should be happy.
