It seems to me Craig is VERY VERY insecure, heck just listen to his voice! So once he found himself a group in the house has that accepted him he has felt the need to lie about and distort his own personality, and in this case the very basic facts of a conversation, in order to be retained as a peer among that group since he doesn't have the confidence to be truthful and, here comes that all important word, genuine.
It's quite sad really, I feel sorry for him.
