i agree with you again!
mowo would be seen as discriminating, no-one bats an eyelid at mobo! double standards for things like that! as i mentioned a while ago! putting on a french accent doesnt matter, putting on an indian accent gets you accused of racism! |

Meh, I don't see the point in the awards but I don't see how making MOWOs would help the situation at all.

Whites have become more racially tolerant.
There could be MOAO awards, but definitely not MOWO awards. I just think that all of this "black people can't be racist, but white people are always racist" is absolute ****. Seriously, whites get more crap for being racist than anyone else and blacks can now get away with it in movies, in TV, etc. Take the station over here, "BET" whose official name is "Black Entertainment Television". I can understand that it is because they're a minority (albeit, a big minority), but still I just don't understand how black people can get away with all of this stuff whilst if anyone white did it, there would be complete controversy. |

Have to laugh. From what I can work out by reading posts on these forums, people want the right to say "****" and "***" no mater if it offends people as the world is "to PC" yet you are offended by an awards ceremony that any colour person can win, because it has the word "black" in the title.
I don't get you lot. |

I agree with the point your making. Though I never really thought about it. I think a lot of the people who thrive to crush racism are often the ones who strengthen the divide between races such as the MOBOs. Also, as it has been said, if there was an event celebrating white culture you can be sure it would be extremly frown upon.
PC-ness is only hypothetical in my eyes. It won't ever exist until black people get the same sort of flack for using racially offensive terms like ******, ****, chink ect. |

No the awards should not be banned. The MOBO's started in the mid-eighties as a reaction to the fact that black people were not winning Brit awards. When it first started no one batted an eyelid as it was a small insignificant awards ceremony with little credibility. There was a MOWO's it was called the Brits. It's only now the MOBO's are just as prestigious as the Brits people talk about the racial issues. Why was no one talking twenty years ago when the MOBO's first started.

No because its just a name, it doesn't have the same meaning anymore. White acts are nominated, not very often but they still are.
Even with the MOBO's the BRITs are still heavily biased towards white acts, the list of the most successful acts speaks for itself: Robbie Williams Annie Lennox U2 Take That Coldplay Prince Arctic Monkeys Michael Jackson Oasis Blur Spice Girls Dido Manic Street Preachers 2/13 ... |

indie awards and stuff like that are populated by white people. Although It doesnt have the word "White" in the title of there genre.
I say keep it but just change the name, then it'll be the same as all the others. |

Well they have things like the kerrang awards for metal, NME for indie and rock etc... I don't mind having an awards show for hip hop, RnB- which is basically what the MOBO's are. But why call them the MOBO's? I realise the music is mostly black in origin but is that really relevant? I mean, there are a lot of white performers in the genre now, I don't think it's origin is important. It should be the music that is important, so a name change to reflect the genre would be more appropriate in my opinion.

"Yeah and I don't get why you're a huge pain in the ass who completely disregards peoples opinions just because you know they'll kick your ass in a debate."
A clear and concise argument there. A pain in the ass or someone who will speak their mind? Do I completely disregard peoples opinions or do I listen and sometimes disagree? I happen to think there is nothing wrong with the MOBO's. It is what it says it is. Do you have a term that could be used to encompass the wide and varied styles of music that have come from the black communities. As I think there is nothing wrong with the name it would be wrong of me to agree with you. "because you know they'll kick your ass in a debate." I am not the one who has resorted to insults here. Angie asked the question (was it Angie?) I took a wild stab in the dark that they wanted peoples opinions and not everyone to agree with them. The point I first made is that I think it is odd that people here complain that things are to PC but then say the name MOBO is wrong and not very PC. Can you see where I am coming from? |

some are wondering why an award ceromony is needed in what we call an EQUAL socierty, why cant whites be treated equally to and have the chance to win a MOBO, thats all this is about. The point is, the MOBOS are exclusive and just as you asked me if I'd be offended by a sign on a house for rent with the words "no blacks" this merely asks the same question namely. are you happy at an awards ceremony that in effect has the words "sorry no whites " on it? |
