I think Ross will get out of it with a wrist slapping as he has already said sorry personally, and in any case the BBC won't want to lose him to ITV.
Brand however will be heading back to Channel 4, because this is the end of him on the BBC for a long long while. He hasn't even said sorry in a sensible grown up way.
As for the PM getting involved, you would with the credit crunch and all he and the other members of the Government would have better things to do with there time.
