Producers\' fury at George Takei for boldly going where he shouldn\'t have done
Quote:
Producers' fury at George Takei for boldly going where he shouldn't have done Star Trek star George Takei faces the wrath of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! producers after urinating alfresco in camp in the middle of the night.
Night vision cameras observed the 71-year-old actor relieve himself next to the double-decker bus he calls home in a move that will remind viewers of Carol Thatcher’s urinating scandal from an earlier series.
Back then, the former Prime Minister's daughter was caught on camera urinating next to her camp bed, which caused a virtual plague of rats to the area.
‘I tell all the celebrities not to pee in the camp, but someone always disobeys,’ reveals on-set medic Bob McCarron.
‘Rats love human urine and they are extremely attracted to it. They will come in and gather around the pee, which then attracts snakes who feast on the rats. It’s one of the worst things the contestants can do.’
An addition of rats to the camp will not be the celebrities’ first encounter with the Australian wildlife.
Earlier this week, night vision cameras recorded a rat scampering over former Blue singer Simon Webbe, and a spider crawling over the hood of WAG Carly
Zucker’s sleeping bag.
Meanwhile, worried ITV producers have been thrown into turmoil after the most damaging storms in 25 years hit the Australian Gold Coast, near where I’m A Celebrity is filmed.
The show’s first Bushtucker Trial – called Long Drop – took four hours to tape as the heavy showers stopped contestants Dani Behr and Carly Zucker from competing the challenge throughout the day.
More than 230,000 homes lost power and communication systems have been knocked out after heavy rain, damaging winds and flash flooding hit the local area.
The hazardous showers even claimed the life of a 20-year-old man who drowned in flooded storm water.
‘It’s been raining all night long,’ admitted 71-year-old actor George Takei in the celebrity camp. ‘I slept in the bus, but there are no windows, so the rain just flooded in.’
Locals commented: ‘It’s the worst storm I’ve ever seen. There were trees down and hailstones the size of golf balls.’
With three more days of storms ahead, producers have had to reschedule Bushtucker Trials until the inclement weather subsides.
The crew are also keeping a close eye on the conditions in camp as floods have been known to rip through the site, taking campsites, trees and even rock faces with it.
‘We rebuilt the celebrities’ pool this year because a flood went through the camp and washed everything away,’ admits executive producer Beth Hart.
‘All of the camera hides and the rock face in Home camp were washed away – and they filled our pool with a pile of rock, so we had to build a new pool much closer to camp.
Last year’s Snake Rock camp was also completely washed away, which allowed us to build the Away camp from scratch without the beds.’
