It looked odds-on at least 2 would get there. What went wrong?
I excuse ruth, who was at the back of the field in WEEK 2 and came through to the last 5 (should have been last 4!).....
But did laura and, especially rachel, flatter to deceive?
Was diana not so much 'unique' as totally overrated?
Did fans run out of 'patience'? And did the teeny vote switch to boys in the last 2 weeks?

This was supposed to be HERE COME THE GIRLS.....

laura - no idea, possibly lack of likeability.
rachel - no likeability at all/hit and miss performances.
ruth - lack of public support.
diana - lost public support due to illness/'samey performances'.

Well it has nothing to do with the teenage girls, which is what excuse most people tend to put out there in these situations. If it was the case, Scott, and Austin would probably still be here. What happened was pretty predictable if you ask me. The judges bailed on Laura, and the public followed. The worst comment I have ever heard was Simon telling her, you should be more like DIana. WTF? They put all their eggs in one basket, even picking her best bootcamp song as the winner single. Ruth never had the support, Rachel never did either. With DIana, its what a lot of us have been saying since the start. She was doing the same thing over and over again, and it got boring. Her voice although you might find it interesting at first, the more she sings, the more you realise, all she does is sing off key. And what was cool at first became irritating. Its that simple. To pull the lowest amount of votes after being such a favorite, speaks volumes.

As for the finalists, JLS earned their spot in there. They were in the bottom 2 not long ago, so they won over the public with performances. They didnt pick up anyone's fanbase. Alex has always been stellar, and she undoubtedly picked up votes from Ruth, Rachel and Laura's fans. The only person who can claim the teenage votes is eoghan, and I have to say, Simon does a great job picking songs that gets him votes, just like it was unlikely to have same difference in the final. I am just surprised that Louis isnt giving him the same treatment to Eoghan, with all his cheesy numbers, which he use to slate SD for.

Laura was over rated , she was brilliant in Week 1 but all of her other performances were average , she should have stayed longer than she did though

Rachel wasnt likeable and some of her performances were awful

Ruth , it was a shock that she got so far after being in the Bottom 2 in Week 2

Diana was brilliant at the beginning but never really improved and got worse if anything

Oddly enough, around the time that laura went, I predicted that the final would be egghead, diana,and either jls or alex.
Not far away.........just that alex is in it, not diana.

It was obvious that it was never going to be an all girl final.

Ruth was in the bottom 2 twice so it was pretty obvious that she'd be out before the semi's, Laura was over-rated and never really had a big fanbase online (I know that doesn't represent the public, but we have nothing else to go by), Diana was pretty crap since she took the week back (apart from Girlfriend and White Flag), and Rachel was just awful.

I was expecting an Austin/JLS/Diana final.

Ruth- Huge online support but in the bigger picture people liked her but preferred/voted others
Rachel- Peaked in her audition
Diana- Lost it after getting laryngitis

I was expecting a final with Alexandra, Laura and Austin. I have no idea why Austin and Laura went so soon.

So to date, Alexandra is the only the third female to make it to the final week of the X Factor. The sheer number of women in the competition this year would, as I expected at least, have guaranteed more than one woman in the final. Or so you'd think.

Laura was a nice girl but she was criticised by Louis for her (lack of) image - negative comments like that put people off voting for someone.
Rachel had a horrible personality.
Ruth had no regional support base, and after being in the bottom two in the 2nd week, it was really quite surprising to see her finish 5th in the end.
Diana really suffered when Laura was voted out of the X Factor, to be honest, people were partially blaming her for getting a "free pass" into the following week of the show, and her subsequent performances were naff.

Diana's popularity slowly went downhill

Ruth's AGE was a problem?! She was 26 ... if she entered last year she would have been in Sharon's category because of when her birthday falls (half way through the live shows I think)

I think being in the over 25's put contestants at a disadvantage, it puts some people off voting for them and younger voters are more likely to vote for younger contestants.
