Default Jeff Buckley = overrated

Probably an unpopular opinion but I think that version is overrated and Alexandra's is better

Just because Alex sang it powerfully, doesnt mean its better. Its supposed to be a soft song anyways, if you go by the lyrics, and by the original.

well there's 3 opinions on this;
1.Alexandras is better
2.Jeff's is better
3.the usual Musical Snob "nothings better then the original" crap(despite the fact most people who say it have'nt actualy ever heard the origina)

think ill go with 2.

Who said it was supposed to be soft? Just because the original is doesn't mean it has to be. Loads of people prefer Leona's Run over Snow Patrol's and Leona sings it in a completely unintended way. Its about putting your own stamp on a song, not singing it in a way just because thats how the original is.

I agree, most people think the Jeff Buckley version is the original.

Personally, I adore the Buckley version and hate Alex's. She completely over sings it. I do love Diana's rendition of it though.

I also am not fond of the original (Leonard Cohen).

OK fine. well Jeff Buckleys is way better. Alex's is obviously very good, but it doesnt even begin to touch it. And I am guessing 80% of the people will tell you that.

A 4 octave range can't be overrated.

Diana's would've been better than Alex's.
Jeff's is better than Alex's, though.

Alexandra > Leonard Cohen > Jeff Buckley, in my opinion.

If Leonard Cohen or Jeff Buckley's version didn't exist then Alex's would be half decent. It's like Leona's version of Run, decent by itself but compared to the originals it completely misses the point. The production is way too big when it should be understated and the fact they put in a key change and a gospel choir is sickening.

I like Alex but I hate the song. I'll be patiently waiting for original material.

Imo, I like the girls version better than Jeff's(dont know her name) but she sang it during the OC when Marisa dies.

Alexandra's version is INCREDIBLE too as was Diana's bootcamp one. Wow!!

I hate how people overrate Jeff's version. Yes, it's good, sung with raw emotion and is an instant classic - but it's not the best thing ever.

Personally, I prefer Imogen Heap's version. It's a completely different arrangement and is much more my style. Alexandra's is my favourite version of them all.

Anyway I love Jeff, Imogen and Alexandra's versions.
I totally adore them all, seriously. I think I love Jeff's and Imogen's the most jus because of the OC and Jeff's especially with all of the emotion and rawness. But I do still rate Alexandra's up there with the best.

well, tbf to alex she did sing it better (in my opinion anyway)
but its her own interpretation of the song, its not meant to be better than the original.
