Default Pietersen out as England captain

Pietersen out as England captain

Kevin Pietersen has left his position as England captain in the wake of his rift with coach Peter Moores.

BBC Sport understands Moores will also leave his post but it is unclear if the duo have resigned or been sacked.

The England and Wales Cricket Board held an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening where it is believed an initial decision to sack the pair was approved.

But further meetings have since been taking place on Wednesday with a view to resolving the escalating crisis.

BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew said he had been told by an ECB spokesman that Pietersen and Moores had not tendered their resignations.

This is bad news just before the England tour to the West Indies, it would have been a much fairer assesment of how good Pierterson was as a captain, and how good England as a team were.
They needed some harmony and some good results against a side similar to restore some confidence ahead of the ashes series, it looks now like its going to be a very big struggle this summer.

Strange thing is we always seem to do better when the team is in a mess, so in someways this might be a blessing in disguise.

The new chosen one, Strauss, has been a stand in captain before and lead a very successful campaign against Pakistan when he help win a series. Lets hope he can do it again in the West Indies and build up the confidence of team and get them working together before we face Australia in the summer.

With Australia being at their lowest point for years it is now that England needs to strike to win the Ashes Series at home. If we mess up on that opportunity it could be years before we win them again after new young Australia have had time to become world leaders in cricket again.

Thank you, I hope I'm right too. We have some good players but England haven't been a success you would have expected them to be under Pietersen with him leading from the front like he has. Something was wrong and maybe this coming before the summer was better for English cricket than it happening after the tour of the West Indies. At least the new captain has a chance to mold the team.

It such a shame what has happened to the West Indies as a cricketing force. I guess it has to do with the rise in the popularity in football among the youth. Now fewer youngsters are interested in cricket today than they were in the past and potential international cricketers are playing football instead.

I really hope that the recent World Cup and the rise of 20-20 cricket reverses the downward trend in cricket in the West Indies. It would be lovely to have them as a world force again.

To watch there blowing and batting in the past was show spectacular technique which verged on brilliance. To see that in the game again would just what cricket needs right now, especially in the West Indians.

I would suggest going to a 20.20 game at your local county side. It's far from boring.

Unlike football you can have a few beers while you're there to get into the spirt of things and have a good time too.
