Default Grouping People

Personally, I do not think it is fair how people in society are grouped, because of what they wear or what they listen to. Just because on day i wear some tracksuit bottoms, does not mean i am a Chav. The next day i die my hair black, that does not mean i am an Emo, i might just like the colour black.

Loads of people at school call me a Chav because i have some Rihanna on my Mp3? What is wrong with having Rihanna? And how does that make me a Chav all of a sudden? I also have a load of Leona stuff, all of her x factor performances and her album all on my ipod and i only have it because i like Leona Lewis and her music.

What i am trying to say is that, putting people into groups oer what they wear, watch or listen to... is unfair! Everybody has something about them that makes them different to everyone else, meaning everyone is themSelves.. Not an Emo, not a chav, not a gangsta... Themselves

The people around you will grow up soon enough and stop doing it, it's a phase; people's only way to deal with differences to the majority is to stick a label on it and ridicule it.
Ignore them

^Yeah what Hannah said. Younger people I think sometimes like being in one of these groups so they have their friends and they have to worry about that *shrugs*

You can't really break away from the stereotypes. You just need to be yourself and think what is right from wrong.

I get the feeling you don't like being called a chav... thats probably why these "friends" of yours have chosen that label for you.

These people will do it more if they get the reaction they are looking for, they must be close or they would have no idea what music you play on your personal mp3 player. Its not labbeling so much but mild bullying thats the problem here.

Its easy to say ignore them, but harder to do in practise, however knowing yourself as not being a chav should be easier when reacting to there label for you.
It would be like people calling me a hippy or a gothic or even a Britney fan I'd wonder if they even had the right person LOL

You will never find a time in your life when labelling stops, indeed as you get older it gets worse, you won't have any political or sexual labelling to any great extent yet.
What you need to find is the right reaction to it, naturally maturing helps the most so I expect (from what you write here) you'll very soon cope well with this "problem".
Just remember no matter how many times you get called a chav, it still don't mean you are one, just like it would be if these people started calling you a millionaire if you flashed your brand new Ipod at them

Most of them want to be in groups, hence the music and clothes. To me you sound like a normal dude that just likes music for what it is, just music!

agree with angie it never really stops there is always something you can be labelled for and stereotyped into group just cos of something (for example i am a single mum in a council house but i am as far from the stereotyping as you can get around single mums)
as for you and the type of music you like like what you like it doesnt have any barring on the person you are just be yourself and dont change how you are or what you do to suit others

Totally misread that as "groping people", I was thinking to myself "Lewis you dark horse!"

I think a lot of stereotypes basically come from, originally, a small group of people who you would call (for example) a chav or an emo, and they identify themselves as such because they are proud of the label, and because they accept this definition of themselves, it spreads and comes into common usage. A good example would be hippies: you get two types of people who get this label - people who want the name and accept it because it's who they are, and people who are called a hippie as an insult, usually because of their appearance or lifestyle.

I don't really get why people call you a chav though Lewis, I think it'll either pass as a joke if you just ignore it and don't react to it, or it'll stick as a nickname (but hopefully a good humoured one if you try not to react to it!) so basically just avoid reacting to the name and people will hopefully forget about it!

I'm not in a group anymore, I used to be, I used to be the typical 'Mosher'. But you realize why on earth you are following such a stupid trend, I still listen to the music, but I just dress like a normal person. I dont get classed as anything now, but what I listen too on my ipod is no ones buisness. Usually the people who get put into groups have it coming, they clearly want to be in that group.

This is talking teenager sense, like emo, mosher, chav. Kinda thing, Wasn't aiming that at you Michelle.

Most of the stuff that people call in school they end up doing anyway once they leave so it'll pass. You kind of just stop labelling people in the end, it loses its novelty to laugh at emos and that

Don't worry about what others think. As long as you are law abiding no one has then moral right to put you or anyone into a category box.....Those that do are imature and insecure and have to group people in order to make themselves feel superior......They have the problem not you..........Live your life have your own personality and don't be afraid to express your personality......which indeed you are doing..

I hate it when people label me with a certain group. I try to be individual, i wear what i want to wear, i say what i want to say and i do whatever i want to do. and it just annoys me when people feel the need to label someone.

but at the end of the day as long as you know who you are then thats ok. people will allways continue to label others but as long as you know who you really are its their problem.

Lewis you need to ignore these people. Through school, you get labeled for being a certain 'type' of person but that doesnt mean you are that person. Younger people only try and do this because everyone is changing. They cant really keep up, some people mature quicker than others and then some lack behind.

You just always focus on who you want to be and what you want to wear and listen to.

If you took all the different things from who you are. You will see that you are part everything. Thats what makes you special.

Just keep smiling and listening to Leona

i've always hated people labelling people, and in my experience it doesn't stop in adulthood. Be bigger and better than these people doing it to you. I don't know you but from just what i've read you seem level headed so you'll be ok.

It's just one of those silly things that somebody made up, and it got passed along.
