Default Square Enix takes over Eidos

British publisher Eidos has agreed to a £84.3 million takeover by Square Enix.

The Japanese publisher will pay 32 pence a share, with Eidos shares skyrocketing since the announcement, reports BBC News.

Square Enix, known for its role-playing franchises Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, has been looking to expand its role in the West.

"Eidos's products are highly complementary to our business and will accelerate our aggressive expansion into Western markets," said Square Enix president Yoichi Wada.

Eidos is best known for the Tomb Raider and Championship Manager series.

Be good to see more games like Oblivion... Jap RPG's are to wishy washy and apeal more to an eastern market than a western one.. Oblivion is just right for the western market, things like lord of the rings etc, its more of a fantasy spiritual history thing that lord of the rings taps into... Capcom had a bash few years ago with a roman game.. Would make money sence for Square Enix to do the same with a RRG.

I think it would be best for them to stick with the JRPG's. They're worldwide smashes. I reckon they could do a good oblivion-esque game but not if it's in place of an FF game.

Yeah ff but with more of a western feel, many JRPG's have a deep eastern feel, Oblivion and lord of the rings has that western feel... Oblivion is good, Square Enix could take that further.
